SNV Tanzania is looking for a: Part-time Communications Consultant

Based in Dar es salaam, Tanzania

Part-time six months contract

SNV is a not-for-profit international development organization founded in the Netherlands nearly 50 years ago. SNV has built a long-term, local presence in 38 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. SNV works with local based development partners, other civil society organizations, government institutions and businesses to develop the capacities of local communities. Through its works, SNV links local communities to basic service providers to increase their income and to empower local communities to fight against poverty and take ownership of their own development.

SNV has partnered with the Master Card Foundation (MCF) in a 5 year project that aims to stimulate Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) in Tanzania, Rwanda and Mozambique. The OYE project will connect rural youth (aged 18-30 years) to growing agri-business and renewable energy sectors, as employees, entrepreneurs and commercial farmers.

The strategic OYE approach consists of

1. Targeting growth oriented and demand driven markets with concrete potential for employment creation (PULL)
2. Skills and capacity development of youth to capitalize upon local market dynamics (PUSH)
3. Linking of youth to market opportunities for employment and/or small enterprise development (MATCH)

SNV intends to work with public and private local partners so as to provide young rural women and men with relevant engagements combining practical training, ICT based career guidance, access to financial services, small enterprise development coaching, and mentored work placements.

OYE SNV Tanzania is looking for a part-time communications consultant to take lead in external communication matters of OYE project in Tanzania and support the team to profile the project at national level and international level.

The consultant will work 1 to 2 days a week for 6 months as per the agreed working plan and will work alongside with the OYE Tanzania team reporting directly to the TZ communication focal point and the project communication officer. The consultant is to be based in Dar es Salaam and work from the SNV office on the working days.

The consultant will receive a 1 day online induction via Skype by the OYE project Communication officer based in Rwanda and the OYE Tanzania team as well as communication country focal person on the status of the existing external communication materials as well as a full brief on his/her main responsibilities and tasks.

Objective of the consultancy

The objective of this consultancy is to profile OYE project at national and international level by taking the lead in the implementation of OYE TANZANIA communication plan.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant is expected to

• Profile OYE project at national level by contributing in the organization and preparation of key events in the media and on sight for public relations
• Develop and manage a Newsletter on a quarterly basis for youth and feed in our website and share it with our stakeholders and partners in a quarterly basis.
• Editorial management of all reports, case studies, briefs, and the OYE online platforms and provide an up to date news, information and events on all issues related to OYE Project.
• In relation with the project communication officer, contribute in updating and harmonizing and contextualizing contents of OYE core communication materials such as flyer, brochures, banners, youth profile cards and youth journey video.

Candidate profile

The key qualifications for this part-time position

• At Least five years' Experience Professional Experience in Mass Communication.
• A degree in Mass Communication while A Masters on the same field is an added advantage.
• A good working Experience with online platforms and media tools
• Excellent Communication Skills in Both English and Kiswahili Languages, Coordination and facilitation Skills.
• Willingness to travel to project locations according to the work-plan, ability to adopt in a frequently changing environment.

Contract Duration: 6 months
