Job Description
The Team Leader will lead teams of local and international environmental and social impact, health and safety, and resettlement specialists. Quarterly travel to Tanzania will be required, if based elsewhere.

Qualifications:
- Directly relevant university degree
- 10 years of experience in at least one of the following: environmental or social impact assessment and management, health and safety, or resettlement
- A cumulative minimum of 5 years' experience managing teams developing, implementing or reviewing ESIAs, ESMPs, RPFs/RAPs, etc. for large infrastructure or energy projects
- 10 years' direct experience in the formulation, review and implementation of environmental and social impact assessment and mitigation planning for large infrastructure projects, power generation preferred
- Working experience in Africa within the past 5 years, East Africa preferred
- Expert knowledge of IFC Performance Standards (or equivalent such as Equator Principles or World Bank Safeguard Policies)
- Relevant experience working with MCC or the World Bank
- Track record of capacity building or institutional development activities is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Lead teams on site visits to (proposed) project areas, and manage the team's home-based work
- Serve as first Point of Contact with the client on all technical and work planning matters
- Ensure timeliness and quality of deliverables, including:
- Draft Terms of Reference (ToRs) for ESIAs, RPFs/RAPs and similar studies as require
- Reviews of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), ToRs, project implementation plans, work plans, and other third-party materials as they pertain to environmental, social and resettlement issue
- Capacity assessments of the Project Team, implementing entities, and other project stakeholders (and recommendations for capacity building and improvements where applicable)
- Identify potential environmental and social risks, impacts and opportunities related to project activities in the infrastructure and energy sectors, and make recommendations for managing them
- Identify areas for specialized assessments such as hazardous waste, cultural resources, hydrologic investigations etc.
- Ensure project stakeholders are accurately identified, including individuals and groups who may be directly and disproportionately affected by a project because of their disadvantaged or vulnerable status
- Provide general technical advice and assistance regarding environmental, social, health and safety, and resettlement issues to the client
- Provide general technical advice and assistance on IFC Performance Standards
