Role overview
The Paediatrician will take the lead in the design of all specialist pediatric and neonatology medical services for the new CCBRT Maternal and Newborn Hospital to ensure quality critical neonatal care. He/she will have the following responsibilities 1. Leads the establishment of clinical support systems for quality neonatal care. 2. Develops the department’s annual operational plans and budgets for the neonatology unit. 3. Formulates clinical policy development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation pertaining to the neonatology services. 4. Ensures the delivery of high quality neonatology specialist service according to local legislation, standards and international guidelines. 5. Supporting the implementation of standard operating procedures for essential new born care, new born resuscitation, supporting implementation of kangaroo mother care and infection prevention practices. 6. Establishment of a neonatal team 7. To establish and institutionalize perinatal review, strengthen data recording system and promoting perinatal audit meetings 8. Strengthening referral pathways in the catchment area of CCBRT MH, especially with the national hospital 9. Provides technical support to the CCBRT MH CB team and the MH team towards training of staff for the future MH 10. Acts as a mentor to support service delivery 11. Setting up and conduct on the job training programmes for newborn care in the neonatal unit/postnatal ward(s) 12. Relationship management: Maintains the partnerships and collaboration with relevant stakeholders (health professionals & medical professional organisations; partners, suppliers, training facilities, colleges and governmental health departments). |
Skills, qualifications and experience required
The applicant shall possess the following; Key knowledge and competencies Qualified medical professional (MD) specialised in paediatrics and preferable further specialisation in neonatology. Minimum of 7 years proven professional experience, of which at least 2 yrs in neonatal care and some experience in department management Skills: Application of the above knowledge, qualifications, and experience, demonstrating excellent specialisation expertise. Competencies: Professionalism Conceptual and analytic thinking Excellent management and team leadership Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Relationship management Initiative, Self-motivated, driven Ability to perform under pressure Resource management: optimisation of specialist medical staff, equipment, and facilities. |
