The appointment will be on UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £39,818 - £46,972 pro rata per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The Development Planning Unit (DPU) is an international centre specialising in academic teaching, practical training, research and consultancy in the field of urban and regional development and planning. It is concerned with promoting sustainable forms of development, understanding rapid urbanisation and encouraging innovation in the policy, planning and management responses to the economic, social and environmental development of cities and regions, especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
We are seeking to appoint a highly competent and intellectually exciting individual, with a solid academic record grounded on either ecological economics or political ecology and capable of making an innovative contribution to support environmentally just urbanisation against the backdrop of a changing climate, resource scarcities, and ecosystem degradation but also of high inequality in the distribution of environmental burdens and benefits within urban regions of the global south. She/he will be expected to consolidate and expand the research portfolio of the DPU by bringing new and complementary intellectual perspectives on the understanding of the geography, economics and politics of socio-environmental change and urban transitions in the aforementioned context.
The appointment will be made from April 2012 (or nearest possible date).
We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and skills: Educated to PhD level in a directly relevant discipline with a good understanding of the current debates and literature within the subject area as well as a relevant research record and solid publications record. Experience as a lecturer at the postgraduate level, and in the organisation and management of a course at postgraduate level as well as experience in preparing research proposals aimed at a wide range of funding sources but in particular the UK Research Councils.
