University College London - UCL Development Planning Unit
Full Time: The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £35,707 - £38,744 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The Development Planning Unit (DPU) is an international centre specialising in academic teaching, practical training, research and consultancy in the field of urban and regional development and planning. It is concerned with promoting sustainable forms of development, understanding rapid urbanisation and encouraging innovation in the policy, planning and management responses to the economic, social and environmental development of cities and regions, especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
We are seeking to appoint a highly competent and dynamic individual with a solid academic record grounded in the politics and practice of international development with particular reference to development administration and planning. The successful applicant will contribute to the DPU's mission by making contributions to teaching and research in the field of just policies and approaches to development in countries of the Global South.
We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and skills: Be educated to PhD level in a relevant field of research and demonstrate sound knowledge of the relevant literature in the subject area covered by the MSc BUDD programme. Candidates must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of design research methods and participatory design techniques and an incipient but solid publication record in the subject area covered by the MSc, as outlined above. Experience of lecturing and/or providing tutorial support at postgraduate level, including experience of assessing student work at postgraduate level and studio-type exercise as well as experience of conducting research and design research in developing countries and/or experience of working in developing countries. Candidates must experience of writing research/project proposals,draft budgets, independently but also a clear disposition to work collectively. Candidates must be willing to travel and to provide support for student groups in developing country locations.
