University College London - UCL Development Planning Unit
Part Time : 18.25 hours per week (50% FTE)
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be to £35,707 - £38,744 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The Development Planning Unit (DPU) is an international centre specialising in academic teaching, practical training, research and consultancy in the field of urban and regional development and planning. It is concerned with promoting sustainable forms of development, understanding rapid urbanisation and encouraging innovation policy, planning and management responses to the economic, social and environmental development of cities and regions, especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The Development Planning Unit, University College London, wishes to appoint a part time college teacher to teach one of the core modules of the ESD MSc, entitled 'Environment and Sustainable Development in Practice', which runs over the first, second and third term of the academic year. We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and skills: Qualified with an undergraduate degree in geography, economics, architecture or development and postgraduate degree relevant to the field of sustainable urban development in the global south. A good understanding of the current debates about urbanisation, environmental justice, socio-environmental change and international development in the global urban south. In depth knowledge of the dynamics, challenges and paradoxes of urban environmental injustice, informality, planning and social mobilization with experience as a practitioner in the field covered by this module. Candidates should have sound knowledge and command of GIS techniques, participatory mapping and other participatory methods as well as a demonstrated understanding and experience of teaching and facilitation in the classroom and in the field.

The appointment will be made on the UCL Teaching Fellow scheme and will be paid on salary grade 7 points 33 (50% pro rata per annum) depending on qualifications and experience.
