Purpose of the position
The Livelihood Advisor will be responsible for the development of high quality implementation strategies and plans for the agricultural sector. The agricultural sector includes food security and livelihoods, crop production, agro business development and agricultural related income generating activities e.g. bee keeping and Aloe Vera processing (and to a very limited extend pastoralism). The primary focus is on crop production and agro business development. The strategies and plans will include tools for participatory planning, implementation and monitoring of the sector strategies and plans.
Tasks and responsibilities
Provide support to managers and PGMs in the area of livelihood projects
Lead and/or support in initiating, designing and writing PGMs and PGA in developing proposals in the agricultural/livelihood sector
Provide up-to-date information on developments in agro-business development in Uganda to managers and PGMs/PGA
Document various agricultural value chains and define areas of intervention for ZOA
Link with stakeholders active in agro-value chains and promote ZOA’s approach
Develop agriculture and private sector development policy and strategy for ZOA Uganda
Develop in coordination with PGA ZOA Uganda strategy towards food security and livelihoods and private sector development in Karamoja
Support PGMs, PGA and CD in networking and fundraising to implement food security and private sector development in ZOA programmes
Support PGMs in reporting livelihood projects to donors
Advise Managers on livelihood PIA sheets
Promote innovation in post-conflict rehabilitation of livelihood in food security and agricultural related private sector development
Networking with stakeholders in the various agro-value chains
Develop M&E tools and support/analyse the implementation of M&E tools, evaluations and surveys related to agriculture

In coordination with the PGA, the Livelihood Advisor actively participates in various technical and programmatic working groups/meetings and he/she networks with various external partner organisations on issues related to food security, agriculture and agro-private sector development

The LA is part of the Programme Advisory Department team.
Profile
Identity
Being a Christian adhering to the Christian identity of ZOA
The candidate is expected to support the vision and mission of ZOA
Knowledge / experience
Bachelors/Masters in relevant sector
Minimum of five years work experience in relevant sector, including at least one year in a similar position
Skills/Attitude
Proven strong writing skills
Good communication and facilitation skills
Excellent command of English
Inventive and creative person (able to develop the best approach)
Motivator (for the team and the communities)
Willingness travel frequently in Uganda
Strong Christian commitment
