EMPLOYEMENT OPPORTUNITY - Chauffeur

The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Chauffeur in the General Service Office.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Serves as a Chauffeur in the US Embassy motor pool with responsibility for seeing to the safety and comfort of passengers in transit, proper loading and unloading of vehicles and security of cargo when assigned to drive truck. As required, act as a messenger in delivering invitations and other various documents.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates all terrain and passenger vehicles and flat-bed trucks. Performs routine duties and may act as a messenger in delivering documents or invitations to other embassies, government bodies or associated U.S. Agencies and may be assigned up-country trips. Must communicate in English on the radio anytime he is in the vehicle.

Responsible for safety operation and maintenance of Embassy vehicles assigned. Schedule and deliver vehicles to the garage for time-ups. Responsible for proper loading and unloading of vehicles, security of cargo and safety of passengers on transit. Also assist visitors and TDYers at the airport when necessary.

Makes daily appropriate entries on trip tickets and record in the systems through WEB PASS. Immediate preparation of accidents report and advises Motor pool supervisor of any vehicles defects.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Education: Completion of Primary School (Standard VII) is required.



  2. Prior experience: Must have three years driving experience from private corporations or government agencies.



  3. Language proficiency: Level III (good working knowledge) in English and Kiswahili (speaking, writing and reading) is required.



  4. Knowledge: Must be familiar with local traffic laws and area traffic patterns. Should have thorough knowledge of roads and streets in Dar es Salaam. Must be familiar with simple auto mechanics.



  5. Skills and Abilities: Must be able to learn the proper operation of the Vehicle radios. Must have class C local driver's license appropriate to drive all types of vehicles and motorcycles.

EMPLOYEMENT OPPORTUNITY - A/C Mechanic

The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of A/C Mechanic in Facilities Maintenance Section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Performs expertly skilled HVAC related installation, troubleshooting and repair type maintenance work on air conditioning systems at the Embassy Compound and at 100 owned or leased residences by USG.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible to install, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain and repair all Heating/Ventilation and Air conditioning Equipment, air handling equipment, all humidity control equipment, all associated pumping systems, piping systems and control systems, and all electric refrigeration systems at the embassy residences and the embassy compound. Maintains and repairs all systems such as Chillers, Air Handling Units, Air duct working systems, compressors, cooling units, condensers, valves, relays, switches, piping and Freon gas recovery and replacement systems, additionally performs electrical work on the control systems and power supplies. Responds to embassy and or residences during emergencies and trouble reports and corrects problems encountered with minimal help and supervision. Identify all required parts, materials supplies, inputs these into the procurement systems and estimates his/her projects or repairs completely. Plans and schedules work load in conjunction with Supervisor.

Duties include performing Monthly prevention maintenance inspections , examination and surveys of equipment and prepare reports on the condition of equipment with recommendations on repair or replacement work required. Prepares monthly/weekly inventory requests for parts and materials needed for preventative maintenance program. Conducts the preventative maintenance program with the other A/C Mechanics.

Provides recommendations to Maintenance Supervisor and Facility Manager on equipment replacements, repair, and modifications to existing standard operating procedures.

Performs job activities and duties in a responsible manner to avoid the creation of safety or health hazards; conforms to established safety and health policies and procedures; properly utilizes appropriate personal protection equipment as required by the job activity; informs supervisor of all accidents, illnesses and injuries; promptly reports unsafe or hazardous conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Education: Completion of Elementary School (Standard VII) is required. Secondary training in air-conditioning either from apprenticeship program or technical school.

  2. Prior Work Experience: Five years air-conditioning experience is required. Must have demonstrated Chiller System experience, AHU (Air Handling Units) and Split Pack experience.



  3. Language: Level III (good working knowledge) in English and Level IV (fluent) in Kiswahili (Speaking, writing and reading) is required.



  4. Knowledge: Must have knowledge of air-conditioning principles and maintenance practices.



  5. Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of all associated hand and power tools related to the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning trade. Ability to perform diagnostics and repairs using Freon gas charging and reclaiming equipment. Must be able to read and fully comprehend blue prints, diagrams, schematics and drawings in English. Must be able to weld and braze with gas and electric welding devices. Must do so with absolutely no leaks. Must have valid driver's license and the ability to safely and regularly drive a GOV Vehicle.

Community Liaison Assistant

The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Community Liaison Assistant in the Management Section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

The incumbent assists the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) in developing and maintaining key contacts and managing information that benefit the morale and welfare of the entire mission and serves as the main point of contact for all CLO-organized activities within the Embassy, around the country and throughout the region. Incumbent will assist CLO in promoting and implementing cross-cultural activities, providing expert advice on Tanzanian culture and language to the mission staff and their family members and assist in all CLO trips and social functions.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The employee assists the CLO in development, implementation and administration of all cultural and social activities of the Community Liaison Office (Fall Newcomers’ Orientation, US Embassy Halloween Party, CLO trips, etc.) Acts as the liaison between the mission and members of the host government, cultural and social organizations participating in or hosting events for the benefit of our community. Assist the CLO in implementing and executing all events organized through the CLO, including researching and negotiating special offers, resolving potential problems and overseeing all aspects of the actual trips or functions.

  1. Maintains working relationship with all Embassy sections, FSN Association, and other interest or community organizations within the Mission. Is a liaison between CLO and GSO warehouse FSN staff for event support and with local vendors including printing house, publishers, nursery, and travel agents for CLO related activities.

  1. Serves as editor of Mission’s Newsletter. Prepares welcome packages for new officers and visitors, check-in briefing packages for new officers, orders supplies, processes vehicle requests, designing and distributing posters, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  1. Education: University degree in Social Science or Public Relations is required.



  2. Prior Work Experience: At least two years of experience in event planning and management or travel and tourism fields, with an emphasis on group travel, and large scale event planning.



  3. Language: Levels 4 (fluent) in English and Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge) Kiswahili (speaking, writing and reading) is required.



  4. Knowledge: Incumbent must have an in-depth knowledge of the host country and region -- to include the local history, culture, religions, customs. A strong understanding or experince in travel and event planning are required.



  5. Skills and Abilities: S/he must be able to communicate effectively and efficient with employees from all segments of the mission. The position requires daily contact with all levels of employees. S/he must be able to negotiate, problem solve, and trouble shoot often under time/pressure constraints. A computer skill is required.
