Hope Development Volunteers is looking for a long-term (12-24 months) Program Director intern. Presently, we have a limited staff constantly juggling meetings and projects and are in need of a motivated individual designing and supervising community initiatives. We are a young organization covering East Africa with our services of “Connecting developmental volunteers to Meaningful Projects in Africa” and we have our base in Mukono-Uganda. We currently operate in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Southern Sudan. Currently, we are preparing for a large expansion and would like to hire someone with proven experience in management and volunteer coordination experience.
1. Job Description:
The Program Director Intern works with Hope Development Volunteers' programmatic team to provide leadership and direction for the implementation of all project components – Marketing, listing and recruiting the appropriate volunteers for each partner we work with– and ensure that all proposed project objectives and targets are achieved.
He/she will manage local and expatriate staff, oversee the creation and implementation of performance management and work plans, maintain effective relations and coordination with all project stakeholders and serve as primary in-country liaison with the donor and the volunteers. This position is responsible for the coordinating the placement of volunteers geared to supporting the HDV’s programs as well as working member partners. The position is responsible for coordinating multiple projects resulting in increased volunteer involvement through HDV to our partners.
The Program Director will be an experienced leader with a strong academic background and proven experience in management. This position is the perfect stepping stone for a recent college graduate looking for their first opportunity in non-profit development.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Schedule corporate groups and be the Marketing & Business Partnerships onsite representative
• Coordinate and schedule trainings and orientations for all volunteers for various programs.
• Act as the liaison between projects and volunteers
• Assist in outreach programs and reach to new people who may be interested in volunteering.
• Maintain the volunteer Service Calendars and Volunteers database
• Develop and send out acknowledgements to all volunteer groups and individuals.
• Insure all partners are notified and prepared for volunteer activities.
• Facilitate and recruit volunteers for various special events.
• File volunteer questions and requests
• Receive and process volunteer request forms and match volunteers to programs
• - Support the creation and modification of program activities
• - Supervise local and expatriate field staff
• - Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders
• - Monitor and evaluate current program effectiveness for maintenance of mission organization
• - Write quarterly reports
• - Facilitate training for local participants
• - Create and implement performance management plans
• - Liaise with donor and partner organizations
• - Manage field budget
• - Create and oversee volunteer recruitment and internship plans
• Other duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES DESIRED:
• BS/BA preferred
• Strong verbal and written skills
• Demonstrated ability and comfort in speaking before large groups
• Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and Outlook

SUMMARY:
This is responsible professional work in planning, organizing and coordinating recruitment programs and training activities for volunteers and interns at HDV.
A staff member allocated to this class of work is responsible for recruiting, selecting, training and scheduling volunteers and interns to work in Africa through HDV. Duties are performed with considerable independence under the general direction of an administrative superior and work is reviewed through periodic conferences and the observation of results.
The candidate will recruit volunteers and interns for partners, advertising and marketing their placements at our website and through personal contacts with individuals, clubs, and organizations, private and civic groups.
Develops news media announcements and other recruitment information aids such as brochures, newsletters, and fliers. Provides initial orientation, screening and training; develops and implements training programs.
Coordinates with partner organization heads to match volunteers with needs of their organizations. Develops and handles volunteer/interns work schedules and assignments. Develops materials, manuals, and resource information for volunteer staff.
Maintains records on volunteers and interns time contributed to the organizations.
Participates in promotional and public relations activities at the center

REPORTS TO: Administration Coordinator
Salary: USD $ 500 per month
Required Abilities: The Candidate must be able to cover up his travel arrangements, flight expenses and all necessary costs to Uganda. He must all be able to sustain himself financially for at-least 3 months, including Housing expenses, food and other related costs.
Notice: The first 3 months are part of your internship and will be thoroughly volunteership at HDV and after payment system will start very soon after the end of your internship placement.
