The ABA Rule of Law Initiative seeks a legal education specialist on a pro bono basis who will be responsible for working with law professors in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to develop and teach Continuing Legal Education (CLE) classes to legal practitioners in Congo (including judges, prosecutors, and lawyers). The CLE classes should utilize interactive adult learning methodologies and focus on criminal procedure and criminal law, including evidentiary issues, related to combating sexual and gender based violence (SGBV).
The ideal candidate must have a J.D. (or foreign equivalent) and at least five years of relevant teaching and criminal law experience. Applicants must also have specific experience with training law professors and developing legal education courses. Knowledge and/or experience working with civil law systems and/or SGBV cases issues are strongly preferred. French speakers preferred but not required.
This legal specialist position is for a 1 month term based in Goma, DRC. Travel and lodging expenses provided. Preferred start date: June 2011 through September 2011.
