2. JobPurpose
Asa part of team led by the Head of Knowledge Management Division, the software developer reporting to the Head of the Knowledge Management Division,She/Heapplies technical knowledge in contributing tothe implementation and support of IT solutions aimed at improving the Knowledge Management Systems. She/He provides guidance and inputs to the formulation, developmentand implementation of the African Union Commission's activities in knowledge management, ensuring synergies and cooperation with other knowledge centers inAfrica and beyond, based on best practices and knowledge obtained through new partnerships and networks
3. Major duties and responsibilities:
Ø Carry out requirements analysis forand design of software systems.
Ø Design IT solutions using modern software engineering methodologies and tools.
Ø Implement software systems, including acceptance testing, user training and the preparation of documentation.
Ø Maintain existing software systems.
Ø To represent the Commission of theAfrican Union in seminars, workshops, experts meetings and training sessions.
Ø To perform any other duty as may be assigned
4. Qualificationsand Experience Required
Candidates must have a Minimum University degree in software engineering (e.g. information management, electronic engineering or computer science). Professional Certifications in software development will be an asset.
5. Professional experience required:
- Five (5) years of relevant professional experience insystems support and development of large-scale applications which included experience of programming and structured system analysis and design with relational database systems, procedural programming languages using GUI and WEB based development tools.
- Designing and administration of websites;
- Working knowledge of web design,Drupal, Joomla. Word press, HTML, CSS, JAVA, PERL and the implementation ofscripts such as CGI and ASP to generate web pages dynamically within a Content Management System as well as preparing the Templates including database programming and SQL;
- Expert in web applications and haveknowledge in hard ware ( graphic, sound, video ) and providing technical services (system design , programming ,etc, )
6. Other relevant skills
- Thorough understanding of software engineering processes and the software engineering life cycle.
- Disciplined, methodical approach to requirements analysis and system design.
- Thorough knowledge of Web programming(Javascript, PHP, HTML) and knowledge of one or more of ERP5, C/C++, Java, XML,or Scripting languages.
- Knowledge of relational database management software (e.g. SQL Server) and SQL.
- Knowledge of Windows client/server environments.
- Customer/user orientation: ability tofocus on customer/user needs and satisfaction.
- Good communication skills, includingthe ability to prepare software-related documentation.
- Good organizing skills to work simultaneously on different projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills with theability to work effectively in multidisciplinary/multicultural teams with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
- Experience in the field of Knowledge Management systems/programmes and development of knowledge products.
7. Language requirement
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is a requirement; Knowledge ofone or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.
8. Age requirement:
Candidatesmust preferably be between 25and 35 years old.
9. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for aperiod of three (3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance. .

11. Remuneration:
Indicative basic salary of US$27,892.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($16,819.20 perannum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
