Basic Summary: Oversee and work closely with the Invisible Children Uganda (ICU) staff to implement product-designs as a member of the Mend team, a social enterprise in northern Uganda, ultimately improving the lives of women that have been affected by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) conflict.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement and manage the production of new product designs in coordination with production deadlines developed by Invisible Children’s U.S. office.
- Oversee quality control of products and ensure all items shipped to the U.S. pass standards of quality set in coordination with the design team in the U.S. office.
- Ensure that the facility and equipment are functioning at full capacity.
- Oversee the inventory of all raw materials and supplies. Work with ICU logistics department and U.S. office to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement, receipt and implementation.
- Participate in sourcing of raw materials by identifying and managing relationships with suppliers in Africa.
- Oversee psychosocial programs including Functional Adult Literacy, Village Savings and Loan Associations meetings, and other trainings in coordination with a social worker.
- Oversee international shipments to and from the U.S. office.
- Provide regular reports to the Director of Business and Communications, ICU Head of Office and home office in the U.S.
- Oversee Mend’s annual operating budget and all financial management tasks related to Mend in Uganda, in coordination with the ICU finance department.
- Coordinate with Monitoring and Evaluation department to ensure compliance with all M&E data collection and reports.
- Serve as a spokesperson for Mend by hosting visitors and managing all social media related to Mend.
- Provide original Mend content to the U.S. office, including images and stories, in coordination with the ICU Communications department.
- Directly oversee and support the Mend staff through training and capacity building.
Position Details:
This is a salaried position, with a start date of May 1, 2012 and a contract length of two years. Benefits provided include: community housing, cleaning services, paid time off, health care (in country), and emergency evacuation insurance.
Desired Skills & Experience
- 2+ years experience working in production management, project management, or other related field.
- International experience is required.
- Bachelor’s degree required. A Master’s degree is a plus, but experience and commitment to excellence are the biggest determining factors.
- Prior experience managing and supervising staff.
- Prior experience as a cross-cultural leader.
- Prior experience managing and maintaining a budget.
- English fluency required.
- International driving permit and ability to drive a manual vehicle and motorcycle.
- Prior experience working on LRA issues preferred.
- Applicants must be flexible, open-minded, and positive, have excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to adapt to living and working in a cross-cultural environment.

Mend is a subdivision of Invisible Children, geared toward facilitating financial independence and development for women formerly abducted by the LRA.
