2. Majorduties and responsibilities:
a. To develop and review accounting records and maintain an updated accounting system by ensuring that errors and irregularities are identified and promptly corrected;
b. To keep and maintain African Union Peace Fund accounts;
c. To ensure that expenditures are properly recorded against relevant budget codes, in order to avoid over expenditure;
d. To produce periodic financial reports for distribution to programme managers and partners for information and decision making;
e. To design and establish appropriate accounting record for fixed assets;
f. To implement relevant recommendations by both internal and external auditors related to the improvement of the financial management and accounting systems;
g. To ensure the overall management ofthe Unit personnel, budget, performance, quality, discipline and training inconformity with the relevant rules and procedures in force;
h. To prepare annual financial reports,which will be made available to external auditors and the Advisory Sub-Committee of the Permanent Representative Committee (PRC) as required bythe Financial Rules and Regulations;
i. To perform any other duties as may be assigned.
3. Educational Qualifications:
Candidates must havea minimum University Masters Degree in Accounting or a Bachelors Degree plus a Professional Accounting qualification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA) or Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA) or equivalent and Experience is SAP finance and communication.
4.Professional experience required:
Candidates must have at least 10 years relevant working experience in the area of accounting, financial and budgeting systems of which at least 3 years should beat management level.
5. Other relevant skills
- Computer literacy;- Excellent knowledge of data analysisand programme/project management;- Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to organize and motivate others and to work ina multi-cultural environment;
- Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
- Good communication and negotiating skills;
- Good planning and organizational skills.
6. Language requirement:
Proficiency in one ofthe African Union working languages. Proficiency of one or several other working language(s) would be an added value
7. Age requirement:
Candidates must preferably bebetween 35 and 50 years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixedterm contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract shall befor a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

10. Remuneration
Indicative basic salary of US $38,489.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($16,819.20 perannum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses forevery eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
