2. Job Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Director of Programming, Budgeting, Finance and Accounting, the Finance Officer shall be responsible for managing andmonitoring the accounts of AUC. Functions shall include setting up and maintaining a professional system of financial accounting, records keeping andreporting to ensure an effective and transparent administration of AUC funds.
3. Major duties and responsibilities:
Ø Financial Accounting and Monitoring duties;
Ø Assist in the implementation and proper functioning of the AUC accounting system;
Ø Ensure the proper processing of fund transactions and provide financial reports for donors and internal management;
Ø Ensure that donor fund disbursements are made for expenditures indicated in the budget/work plan for executing programmes /projects as specified;
Ø Evaluate trends of financial implementation and make necessary recommendations for possible improvements;
Ø Prepare cash requirement forecasts for funds, request for the release of funds and follow up subsequent receipts; and
Ø Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
4. Qualifications and Experience Required
Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting,Financial Management or Commerce. A professional qualification in Accountingsuch as CPA, CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent from a recognized Institution will bean added advantage.
5. Professional experience required:
Candidatesmust have at least 5 years ofrelevant work experience in Accounting, Auditing and/ or Financial Managementof which at least 3 years should be at middle management level.
6.Other relevant skills
- Financial management and analytical skills in a Donor funded environment;
- Knowledge of funding and other resource mobilization mechanisms;
- Developmentof procedures and Computerized System design and implementation skills;
- Excellent interpersonal, report writing and communication skills;
- Excellent computer skills with practical knowledge of and experience in accountingsoftware
7. Language requirement
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is a requirement; Knowledge ofone or more of the other AU working languages will be an added advantage.
8. Ag erequirement:
Candidatesmust preferably be between 30and 45 years old.9. Tenureof Appointment:Theappointmentwill be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3)years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of twoyears renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

11.Remuneration:
Indicative basic salary of US$27,892.00 per annum plus other related entitlements- e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($14, 414.40 per annum), education allowance (75% oftuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up toa maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the commission.
