Livelihoods Programme Team Leader
National Contract, Open Ended
Based in Kotido
The role
Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will provide technical and programmatic leadership for the livelihoods work for our programme in Karamoja. Your leadership will be central to the achievement of the Programme’s two key objectives of “Building the assets, economic opportunities and resilience of female and male pastoralists and agro-pastoralists” and “Increasing their access to appropriate production services (mainly animal health and water)”. Based on a wide knowledge and experience of gender-sensitive livelihoods programming, from private sector engagement and value chain development to food security initiatives, you will lead the development and implementation of the programme’s livelihoods strategy. You will manage a team of 3-5 Project Officers and oversee the work of partner organisations in implementing livelihoods work. You will be expected to coordinate the delivery of agreed projects to time, quality and budget. You will contribute to the development of project plans and funding proposals. You will develop relationships with a range of external actors in local government, the private sector and civil society in order to facilitate the development of economic opportunities and increased incomes for poor men and women. You will be a member of Karamoja Programme Senior Management and will participate in the Programme’s operational and long term planning.
The Person
You should have proven experience of leading and managing gender-sensitive livelihoods interventions.. You will have a minimum first degree, and preferably second degree in a relevant field. You will have a wide knowledge of livelihoods programming, from market analysis and value chain development to food security interventions. Ideally, you will have experience of working with pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in arid and semi-arid lands. You should have strong analytical and conceptual skills. You should have an appreciation and commitment to gender-sensitive programming, and to promoting poor women’s economic empowerment and leadership. You should have experience of managing partner relationships, and an interest in capacity building of partners. You should have good collaborative working skills, good people management and mentoring skills, and excellent communication skills. You will be adaptable and flexible, able to demonstrate cultural and gender sensitivity, well organised with capacity to achieve results, and a team player. You will also have the ability and willingness to work in a harsh and remote environment.
