Organizational Setting |
The Nuclear Knowledge Management Unit is located in the Department of Nuclear Energy within the INIS/NKM Section and is responsible for implementing the IAEA's subprogramme on Nuclear Knowledge Management. The objectives are to support Member States in applying nuclear knowledge management strategies through the development and dissemination of methodology, guidance and tools as well as their implementation in national programmes and by providing knowledge management services and assistance, and to enhance the synergy of the IAEA's nuclear information and knowledge resources and services. The Knowledge Maintenance Group is part of the Nuclear Knowledge Management Unit. It is responsible for implementing in-house nuclear knowledge management activities in the Department, generating and implementing methodology and guidance documents, thesaurus maintenance and nuclear knowledge management services as well as developing pilot projects. The Knowledge Management Specialist reports to the Leader, Knowledge Maintenance Group, and is part of a dynamic and team-oriented group of about 5 staff. |
Main purpose |
The Knowledge Management Specialist builds on experience in knowledge management and conceptual design of knowledge bases to maintain and further develop the knowledge management systems through collection and verification of nuclear information provided by Member States as well as relevant open source scientific and technical information from internet resources. |
Role |
The Knowledge Management Specialist is: (1) a project manager, developing and implementing new Departmental knowledge management systems for data/information/knowledge; (2) an analyst, categorizing and analysing information resources and providing quality control of the input into the Director General's briefing system from the Department, and; (3) a coordinator of communication between IAEA experts and internal information requestors (Nuclear Knowledge Desk). |
Partnerships |
The Knowledge Management Specialist engages with the Unit/Section members to advise on issues related to knowledge management, system design and development. The incumbent also maintains 'arm's length' working relationships with other units and sections from the Department of Nuclear Energy in developing pilot projects in the knowledge management area. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $67 395 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $43 942*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
