AMCHAM Tanzania serves U.S. citizens and companies doing business in Tanzania as well as Tanzanian businesses involved in or interested in trade with the U.S. AMCHAM provides a network and a forum for sharing information, exchanging ideas and interacting with relevant U.S. and Tanzanian government policy makers, with the ultimate goal of increasing business and trade between the United States and Tanzania. AMCHAM aims to:
- Promote two-way flow of trade and investment between the U.S. and Tanzania;
- Facilitate business and investment opportunities for U.S. companies in Tanzania;
- Promote the spirit of business, professionalism and ethics in the Tanzania environment and to provide insight into American business philosophy;
- Facilitate cross-cultural interaction between U.S. and Tanzanian business;
- Provide a forum to address common business issues and provide resources for background information on doing business in Tanzania;
- Provide information on new legislation that can impact business.
AMCHAM is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Manager to manage our operations, including relationship management, marketing, event management, financial management, and advocacy. The position has a two year commitment and will be based on out Dar es Salaam. Responsibilities include:
MARKETING & MEMBER OUTREACH
- Serve as the main point of contact—in person and via phone and email—for members and prospective members on all AMCHAM related issues and queries
- Ensure that members’ queries and requests are addressed in a timely manner
- With guidance from the Board, support the growth of Chamber including management of membership growth and retention
- Maintain Chamber website, manage outreach to members and prospective members via regular email newsletters, and via social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
RELATIONSHIPS
- Manage and maintain positive and credible relationship with key stakeholders such as :
- Board of Directors
- New and potential Members
- US Investors, visiting US companies
- Government of Tanzania
- Tanzanian embassies/consulates abroad
- US embassy in Tanzania and other US agencies
- Other chambers and business organizations
- Sponsors
- Media
EVENTS
- Facilitate all AMCHAM events, from large conferences to informal networking events to
high-level roundtables - Secure sponsors for Client and its events
GROWTH STRATEGY
- Identify important developments with respect to changes in business environment, investment climate for inclusion / exclusion in the Chamber’s advocacy efforts and member services
- Maintain a pulse of the needs of our current and potential members and clients, including potential need for expanded services as the Chamber grows
OPERATIONS & FINANCES
- Update member database; update current contact list, add relevant businesses in Tanzania not currently on list
- Manage all Chamber IT needs, from website maintenance to the expansion of its social media presence, Master website administration and keep the Client website up to date
- Support the Board to keep the Chamber on a solid financial footing through fundraising from membership dues, sponsorships, and service fees
- Compile and present monthly report with agreed KPIs at Board meetings
- Work with board members to assist with their duties i.e.: member services, events, public policy, relationship management, member recruitment and relations, treasury, advocacy
- Work with Board Sub-committees for eliciting member involvement, regular meetings and taking their action points forward
- Assist Treasurer to formulate annual budget and report against the budget at board meetings
- Assist with annual audits
- Handle relevant business correspondence and communication
ADVOCACY
- Engage with U.S. and Tanzanian public and private sector on behalf of the Chamber
- Maintain strategic relationships with other local and regional business and professional organizations
- Lead public policy and advocacy efforts on behalf of the AMCHAM-TZ membership
Reporting: The Manager reports to the AMCHAM Board of Directors, with the first point of contact being the Executive Committee comprised of the Board Chair, Board Treasurer, and one additional Director.
Working arrangements: The position will be based in Dar es Salaam with office working space available.
Required qualifications: Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 years’ business experience, including experience in frontier markets, with possession of Masters in Business Administration an advantage. Candidates should possess the following:
- Proven ability to set priorities and manage a team to deliver on targets
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving business environment
- Superior written and oral communication skills, including ability to interface with high level staff in partner organizations, including businesses leaders and government officials
- Demonstrated financial management skills
- Strong time-management skills, including ability to meet deadlines
- High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point; ability to manage website content and email database programs an advantage
- High level of professionalism
- An energetic and self-motivated personality, ability to work as a self-starter
