Role overview
VSO – Tanzania (Tz) has more than 50 years of operations delivering livelihoods projects supporting vulnerable people via promoting of small to medium business enterprise; supporting vocational training and skills development in local trades; and strengthening structures and networks of community-based organisations that are involved in economic development. The VSO Secure Livelihoods program would like to recruit dynamic and qualified personnel to fill a vacancy position of Entrepreneurship and Market linkage adviser. The adviser will work in a project named Commercial agriculture for Smallholder Farmers (CASH) in Zanzibar, Tanzania that aims to contribute to strengthening value chain linking smallholder farmers to markets, in view of increased productivity, competitiveness and income in the horticulture sector in Zanzibar. The adviser will work closely with the project team and the main goal of the role is to provide technical assistance to local partner organizations in strengthening farmers’ technical capacity on profitable market accessibility. More specifically, the adviser will: • Provide training in horticultural entrepreneurship with a focus on value addition and certification to lead producers (ToT) and producer groups. • Monitor and provide technical support to farmer groups to strengthen their cohesion and the keeping of farm records • Support the international volunteer on the development of marketing strategies at the organizational and farmer groups level • Provide technical assistance to partner organizations in the implementation of marketing strategies of horticultural production sector and promotion farmers umbrella organizations • Support in the organization of meeting with value chain actors to create awareness on the roles played by each actor. • Provide advice to farmer groups on the establishment, accessibility and use of financial services |
Skills, qualifications and experience required
Essential - Qualified graduate in marketing/economics/business administration/ Agri-Business or related subjects with at least 1 years of experience in agricultural development ideally supporting producer groups/ associations - Knowledge of the business practices and agricultural economics - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private officials and the general public in order to promote agricultural commodities. Desirable - Experience in value chain development methodologies - Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity. Fosters commitment and team spirit. - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information. |
