Assistant Political Editor (1 Post)
Job Purpose:
To plan, lobby for and generate accurate stories 'and information on political issues; advice
editorial management on contemporary political issues and their implications, and write
stories, analyses and commentaries.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key result areas:
Ensures that the stories are written in conformity with journalistic ethics, editorial objectives, house style and within set deadlines.
Assesses political, social and economic climate and anticipates likely development for
coverage.
Evaluates, the information acquired, cross checks for facts and data and assigns writers and or writes the stories.
The material so written must reflect a thorough understanding of the Mwananchi paper style of journalism as defined in the editorial policy guidelines and objectives, ' the house style and the journalistic code of ethical journalism.
Researches and provides background information to make copy complete.
Evaluates the personalities to meet and the information required.
Meets the personalities, discusses subject matters and digests the information.
Maintain the political story docket, following news leads and maintains close contacts with news sources.
Qualifications and Experience:
Academic: Basic University Degree in Journalism.
Professional: Post-graduate Diploma, or Diploma in Journalism.
Experience: 3 - 5 years journalistic working experience.
