Rio Tinto Energy has recently acquired control of Riversdale Mining in Mozambique. Riversdale currently has 2 projects, the Benga project which is set to produce first coal in 2011, and the Zambeze project which is at feasibility stage. Riversdale has an expansive coal resource and a very significant growth profile. The Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards and processes need to be established in a quick and effective way to deliver strong health and safety outcomes and alignment with Rio Tinto's values and standards.
Manager - Technical Services
The primary purpose of this role is to effectively establish and manage the Technical Services function to achieve planning and safety targets within the Riversdale strategic context. Specifically, this include establishment of geology, mine engineering and planning systems and processes.
Once established, the Technical services department will be responsible for geological and geotechnical prediction and control, coal quality estimation and control, provision of short to midterm mine plans, short term mine schedules, construction designs, survey control and reconciliation.
Key accountabilities
- Establishment of the technical services function
- Guide the mining operations to achieve production targets in a cost effective manner
- Manage and provide engineering control of the mining risks that would jeopardise the safety and economic viability of the mine plan
- Short and medium term mine planning
- Oversee the geology and surveying functions
- Leadership of the Technical Services team
- Degree in Mining Engineering, or Geology
- Extensive experience in all facets of open cut mine planning and operations.
- Extensive experience in mine planning and geology
- Experience in financial evaluation and economic analysis of mining scenarios, projects, capital plans and technical / equipment proposals.
- Sound knowledge of relevant mining legislation and industry practice.
- Numerical analysis and data validation skills, including statistical and predictive techniques.
- Involvement with equipment monitoring systems.
- Experience in a supervisory role within a mine production department.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership ability
- Ability to from strong relationships and influence
- Demonstrated strategic thinking ability
