Description
We are seeking an exceptional professional to assist our supply chain team to coordinate the development and operations of Mobius Motors’ robust international, largely outsourced supply chain. The role will require close working relationships with East African automotive suppliers, the venture’s Supply Chain Associate, Cost Engineer, and Automotive Engineer to coordinate purchases, delivery and quality assurance of inputs into Mobius vehicles. Mobius will also expect the candidate to become the foremost knowledge leader of Kenyan vehicle regulations and requirements within the organisation.
Technical Design
- Assist the Supply Chain Associate to negotiate all commercial terms with suppliers for the procurement and delivery of parts, materials, tools, equipment and services.
- Work closely with the Supply Chain Associate to ensure all processes and paperwork are in order for imported parts, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Manage local supplier relationships to ensure on time and high quality delivery of parts.
- Assist the Supply Chain Associate and Cost Engineer in make vs buy analysis.
- Represent Mobius Motors in meetings, trade organisations or events within Nairobi.
- Work closely with the Supply Chain Associate and Automotive Engineer to ensure procured product meets drawings, specifications, processes and requirements.
- Research local and global suppliers who may work within Mobius Motors’ supply chain in future years.
- Track performance of Kenyan suppliers; monitor quality, performance and delivery of local suppliers.
- Work with the Supply Chain Associate to assess delivery transportation modes, routing, consolidation opportunities and other methodologies to create an optimal transportation solution within an integrated logistics network.
- Assist Marketing, Finance, and Engineering teams to procure any office related expenses required for their functions.
Project Management
- Compile reports on regulatory requirements for motor vehicles in Kenya, including, but not limited to, safety, environmental, road licensing, local content, and design specifications for roadworthiness.
- Fully understand rules, regulations and processes for importing international automotive components into Kenya.
- Build strong working relationships with Kenyan Customs officials to ensure Mobius follows all procedures to seamlessly import product without delay at the border.
- Build strong working relationships with Kenya Bureau of Standards to remain aware of any potential changes in regulatory requirements that may affect our vehicle.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate should combine outstanding technical skills in negotiations and process management with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team. They should possess a strong skill set in managing East African suppliers, and navigating the Kenyan regulatory environment – preferably within the automotive industry.
Required
- Bachelor degree (minimum) in Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Procurement, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, Economics or similar
- 3.4 GPA or higher from a top university worldwide
- 2+ years experience in supply chain management or procurement
- Ability to manage difficult suppliers and resolve disputes while preserving relationships with suppliers and internal staff
- Strong negotiation and persuasion skills
- Excellent problem solving ability in a cross-functional and multi-cultural environment; able to define problems, collect relevant data, extract meaning from data, and draw valid conclusions
- Strong analytical skills with regards to data manipulation and the ability to create information from data; including analysis of product costs and lead times
- Ability to effectively communicate timelines and project progress with both internal and external management teams
- Ability to take ownership and accountability of project timeline and results
- Strong technical writing ability; able to read and interpret drawings
- Proficiency in Excel, Power Point, Word
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic working environment and work within a diverse team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Extreme patience and a good sense of humour
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with others

- Comfort with spending 10-25% of time traveling within East Africa, possibly on short notice
Desired

- Knowledge of manufacturing, equipment, and process within final assembly, body shop, paint shop, and powertrain
