Spark MicroGrants (www.sparkmicrogrants.org) is a young, rapidly scaling organization pioneering a new approach to aid. Spark proactively reaches out to rural poor villages and helps community members to design, implement and manage their own social impact projects. We’ve mobilized over 25 communities in Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Guatemala, and Ethiopia to manage social impact projects including schools, water wells, community farms, and more.
Job Description
Spark MicroGrants is expanding its work with 16+ coffee growing communities in eastern Uganda. We are looking for an enthusiastic project lead to serve as Spark’s first full-time program manager in Uganda. The program manager will manage a team of two Ugandan facilitation fellows, oversee 16 communities through the MicroGrant process and carry out impact evaluations. Anyone interested in the position must be motivated, independent and excited by the chance to make a difference in the early stages of a growing organization. The program manager will receive exceptional leadership experience and a rare opportunity to work firsthand with a host of rural communities addressing multi-sectorial needs and liaising with experts from across sectors.

Location: Mbale and Mount Elgon, Uganda
Start Date: May 20, 2012, but flexible Initial Contract
Details: 18 months minimum time commitment
Compensation: A small stipend, housing and international health care will be provided.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as international relations, development, public health, non-profit administration or other relevant area is required
- Candidate must have demonstrated success in past leadership: achieving ambitious, measurable results in academic, professional, extracurricular, or volunteer settings
- English fluency and superior writing capabilities
- 6+ months experience in social sector work (volunteer or otherwise)
- 6+ months experience in Africa preferred
- Superior organizational ability: planning well and managing responsibilities effectively
- Flexibility and independence in travel and working on young, rapidly changing projects including atypical working hours, such as field site visits on weekends
