SolarNow is a social enterprise focussed on high-quality, reliable solar home systems, made affordable through 12 month credit terms. We work through our own branches and with a network of franchises and installers. In 2011 SolarNow Uganda has successfully installed over 500 systems. In 2012 SolarNow Uganda expects to grow to 1000 systems per month and start operations in Tanzania.
SolarNow is currently using Excel and QuickBooks to manage its business. To facilitate growth and expansion to other countries, SolarNow has already started implementing an ERP system called OpenERP. SolarNow aims to use the OpenERP system as a flexible platform that can model SolarNow’s unique business processes and grow along with the business.
A first version of the system will be launched in March, but will only cover specific parts of the business. We aim to have a fully comprehensive system by the middle of this year. By then the system should (1) cover all functional parts of the business (accounting, credit, stock, payroll, etc); (2) be easy to use; (3) be secure and robust in handling large volumes of data; and (4) have unique features that will facilitate the business tremendously (e.g. interfaces to online banking, SMS gateway, etc.)
SolarNow is looking for an all-round and experienced ERP project manager who is willing and capable to complete the realization of the OpenERP system and take it beyond a standard system. We expect the following qualities:
• A relevant BSc with at least 5 years of relevant experience;
• Trained and at least 3 years experience in “Agile” IT project management;
• Familiar with OpenERP and implemented at least one OpenERP system for a reputable business;
• Proven understanding of common business processes, such as: sales, accounting, inventory & reporting;
• Ability to assess quality of programming written in at least Python, PHP & CSS;
• Knowledge of databases and in specific PostgreSQL;
• Familiar with hardware, open source software and security protocols;
• Experience in testing of new functionality; bug testing and resolving;
• Experience with roll-out of new systems/functionality & user training.
SolarNow offers the following:
• Market conform remuneration;
• Minimum assignment: 3 to 6 months (near full-time in Uganda) with potentially the possibility to extend; Quality accommodation available in company apartment;
• Create a unique ERP system tailored to a unique business model in a quickly growing and emerging market;
