Post Title: Communications Specialist, EFA Global Monitoring Report
Duty station: Paris
Duration: until December 31, 2012, with possibility of extension
The annual Education for All Global Monitoring Report (GMR) is the world’s foremost publication on
education. It monitors progress towards the Education for All (EFA) goals agreed at the World Education
Forum in Dakar (Senegal) in 2000, identifies promising education policies, and analyzes a major theme
each year. The GMR is seeking to recruit a Communications Specialist.
Main responsibilities:
The Communications Specialist will work under the authority of the Director of the EFA Global Monitoring
Report to lead on the dissemination of the annual edition of the GMR to policymakers and the media. To
do this, s/he will be responsible for:
- conceiving, planning and producing a range of communications and advocacy materials and tools in accessible non-technical language, such as:
- a summary of the main Report
- press releases and opeds
- policy papers
- blog posts
- photographs and audiovisual materials
- infographics.
- preparing speeches, talking points and presentation material, including for launches and media
events;
- identifying key messages from the Report in order to influence policy change at the national and
international level;
- initiating and maintaining contacts with international media to ensure global coverage of the
Report’s messages;
- leading on social media campaigns to extend the dissemination of the Report’s messages to a
new audiences;
- establishing and maintaining a system for monitoring the policy and media influence of the GMR;
- managing staff and consultants in related activities;
- presenting the Report in public fora.
Profile:
- Postgraduate university degree (Masters or equivalent) in journalism, communications, development studies or another social science discipline;
- 7 to 10 years of relevant work experience in journalism and communications, of which
preferably 3 to 5 years acquired at international level;
- demonstrated capacity to distil research in non-technical language;
- experience in promoting policy change;
- proven engagement in outreach with media, including social media;
- demonstrated ability to draft under tight deadlines;
- demonstrated ability to work innovatively with minimal supervision and in a self-motivated
manner;
- good knowledge of, and commitment to, the GMR’s aims, and good understanding of
expectations of the GMR’s stakeholders;
- ability to maintain effective working relations within a multicultural team;
- excellent English language skills, and preferably a good working knowledge of another UN
language;
- excellent IT skills.
to an estimated annual salary of approximately 120,484 USD with dependant and 111,820 USD without
dependant.
