Kenyatta University is one of the fastest growing public universities with modern facilities and impressive physical environment. We seek to recruit experienced, professional and dynamic applicants to support our robust growth in the various campuses and diversification to infrastructure projects.

1. VICE-CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE

i. Director, Revenue Generation and Enterprise Development

Applicants must be holders of Master Degree in Business Administration or related field.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

• Extensive knowledge of fundraising or business development and trading legislation
• Proven experience in devising and implementing income generation strategies in an institution/organization
• Ability to consult, lead and inspire top teams to deliver in challenging environments
• Powerful negotiating, influencing and communicating skills

PhD in relevant field will be an added advantage.

ii. Communications/ Public Relations Manager - Grade 12

Applicants must be holders of Master Degree in Mass Communication or Public Relations or equivalent qualification from a recognized university. In addition, he/she must:

• Have at least five (5) years relevant work experience at a senior position in a large organization preferably in an institution of higher learning
• Demonstrate administrative and professional competence in the area of Communication/Public Relations
• Have a good understanding of general marketing communications practice
• Be conversant with proven IT skills, in particular, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher
• Have good copywriting and editing skills
• Have experience of briefing the news media.

The duties and responsibilities of the position will include:

• Managing and directing the university’s internal and external communications
• Initiate and develop and execute strategic appropriate communications and public relations initiatives
• Anticipating, analyzing, interpreting and dealing with issues touching on institutional image as may arise
• Formulating and implementing institutional crisis management strategies
• Working with university management on key messages, publications and their delivery mechanisms
• Tracking major developments in the higher education sector to ensure continued relevance of the university’s messages and strategies
• Developing and implementing a publicity strategy as well as encouraging greater media coverage of events, trends and ideas related to the university’s efforts
• Developing , maintaining and enhancing regular communication with the media including the establishment of media contacts database
• Serving as the university’s principal media liaison officer
• Organizing protocol, media events, releases and briefings
• Initiating and managing linkages with various university stakeholders as well as keeping a database of stakeholders
• Working with designers, writers, producers, and web staff to develop creative communications materials for the university
• Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

2. DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (ADMINISTRATION) DIVISION


Senior Assistant Registrar - Grade 13

Applicants must be holders of a Master Degree in Management preferably in Human Resource Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized University. In addition, applicants must have the following:

• At least five (5) years post qualification working experience in Human Resource Management and general administration in a busy organization preferably in an institution of higher learning,
• At least three (3) years of which at the level of Assistant Registrar or equivalent.
• Evidence of computer and communication skills.

Additional professional qualifications in management such as CPS or equivalent from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

3. DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR, FINANCE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

Procurement Manager - Grade 13

Applicants must be holders of Master Degree in Business Studies or a related field from a recognized university. In addition, they must have a relevant Bachelor Degree and professional qualification in Purchasing and Supplies Management. They should be registered with the relevant professional body.

In addition, they must have the following:

• At least five (5) years relevant work experience preferably in an institution of Higher Learning
• Conversant with procurement procedures in public institutions
• Excellent computer skills
• Excellent negotiation skills


4. OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF STUDENTS

i. Administrative Assistant - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of Bachelor Degree from a recognized university. Candidates with additional qualification in Management, CPS or equivalent will have an added advantage. In addition the candidate must have the following:

• Proof of Computer literacy
• At least three (3) years relevant post qualification working experience in a busy organization preferably in an institution of higher learning.

ii. Secretary – Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C and above. They must also have a credit or Grade C and above in English. In addition, the applicants must have:-
• Type writing speed of 50wpm
• Shorthand speed of 100wpm
• Office practice II
• Office management
• Business English III
• Evidence of computer literacy
• At least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy organization.

iii. Registry Clerk - Grade III/IV

Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or Mean Grade of D+ (plus) and a Certificate in Records Management or related field from a reputable institution. In addition, they should have at least three (3) years relevant work experience as Registry Clerk in an Academic or Research Institution.

5. UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT OFFICE

i. Development Officer (Kenyatta University Foundation) - Grade 11

Applicants must be holders of Master Degree, preferably in Social Sciences or Education from a recognized institution of higher learning.

In addition, the applicant must have the following:

• At least five (5) years relevant working experience
• Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel and Publisher Computer programs and the preparation of Power point slides
• Experience in the writing of reports, grant proposals and maintenance of Databases

Work experience from international Donor organizations, NGO, CBO will be an added advantage.

ii. Marketing Officer (Uni City) - Grade 11

Applicants must be holders of MBA Degree in Marketing option or any other related field from a recognized institution.

In addition, the applicant must have the following:

• At least five (5) years working experience in a Managerial position in a shopping mall
• Excellent English communication and presentation skills – both verbal and written
• Proficiency in the use of Word/ Excel and the preparation of Power point slides
• Strong personality, good organization skills, self motivation, strong negotiation and public relation skills with a lot of initiative and self drive.

6. SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES

a) Department of Health Management & Informatics

i. Professor

Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree in Health Informatics, Health Management and Health Administration from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

• Twelve (12) years of university teaching as Lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor
• Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and at least two (2) PhD students since being appointed as Associate Professor
• At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
• Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
• Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.
• Be able to teach any of the following courses:

• Health Informatics
• Health Management
• Health Administration

ii. Associate Professor

Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree in Health Informatics, Health Management and Health Administration from a recognized university.

In addition applicants must have the following:

• Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as full time Senior Lecturer
• Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and one (1) PhD student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer
• At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as Senior Lecturer
• Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Senior Lecturer
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
• Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.
• Be able to teach any of the following courses:

• Health Informatics
• Health Management
• Health Administration

iii. Senior Lecturer

Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree in Health Informatics, Health Management, Health Administration and Computer Sciences from a recognized University.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

• At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as full time Lecturer
• Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer
• Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master students
• Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
• Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.
• Be able to teach any of the following courses:

•Health Informatics
•Health Management
•Health Administration
•Computer Sciences

iv. Lecturer

Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree from a recognized university or have successfully defended a PhD thesis in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Medical Statistics and Computer Sciences.

In addition, the applicant must have the following:

Full time university teaching as Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer for at least three (3) years
Be able to teach at least four (4) of the following courses:

•Epidemiology
•Biostatistics
• Medical Statistics
•Computer Sciences

v. Tutorial Fellow

Applicants must be holders of Master Degree or its equivalent in Health Communication from a recognized university:

In addition, the applicant must show evidence of teaching at university level

Successful candidates will be expected to teach and pursue PhD Degree in the relevant field.
The Tutorial Fellow should be able to teach at least four (4) of the following courses:
• Social –Medical Sciences
• Health Economics
• Health Behaviour
• Epidemiology

b) Department of Pharmacy and Complementary/Alternative Medicine
(Re-advertisement)


i. Professor

Applicants must be holders of BPharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy) or PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) or BSc. AND PhD Degree in any of the following fields from a recognized University: Pharmacology, Toxicology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Social and Behavioral Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy, Phytochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Microbiology or Traditional Medicine.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

• Twelve (12) years of university teaching as Lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor
• Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and at least two (2) PhD students since being appointed as Associate Professor
• At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
• Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
• Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.


ii. Associate Professor

Applicants must be holders of BPharm or PharmD or BSc AND PhD Degree in any of the following fields from a recognized University: Pharmacology, Toxicology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Social and Behavioral Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy, Phytochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Microbiology or Traditional Medicine.
In addition applicants must have the following:

• Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as full time Senior Lecturer
• Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and one (1) PhD student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer
• At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as Senior Lecturer
• Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Senior Lecturer
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching

iii. Senior Lecturer

• At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as full time Lecturer
• Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer
• Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master students
• Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
• Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iv. Lecturer

Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree in any of the following fields from a recognized University OR have successfully defended PhD thesis: Pharmacology, Toxicology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Social and Behavioural Pharmacy, Phytochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Medical Virology, Microbiology or Traditional Medicine.
Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree from a recognized university or have successfully defended a PhD thesis in their area of specialization.

In addition, the applicant must have full time university teaching as Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer for at least three (3) years.

v. Tutorial Fellow

Applicants must be holders of BPharm and MPharm or MSc. Degree in the relevant Pharmaceutical Sciences from a recognized University.
In addition the applicant must be prepared to pursue a PhD Degree in the area of specialization.
Applicants with BSc. and MSc. Degree in the following areas from a recognized University may also be considered: Pharmacology, Toxicology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Microbiology, Traditional Medicine or Social and Behavioral Pharmacy.

7. SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH:

Department of Community Health

Areas of specialization:

• Epidemiology
• Community Health
• Medical Statistics/Biometrics

i. Professor

Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree in the relevant area from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

• Twelve (12) years of university teaching as Lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor
• Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and at least two (2) PhD students since being appointed as Associate
Professor
• At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
• Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
• Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

ii. Associate Professor

Applicants must be holders of PhD Degree in the relevant area from a recognized university.

In addition applicants must have the following:

• Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as full time Senior Lecturer
Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and one (1) PhD student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer
• At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as Senior Lecturer
• Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Senior Lecturer

iii. Senior Lecturer

Applicants must be holders of a PhD Degree in the relevant area. In addition the applicant must have the following:

• At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as full time Lecturer
• Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer
• Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master students
• Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer
• Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
• Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iv. Lecturer

Applicants must be holders of a PhD in the relevant area from a recognized university or have successfully defended PhD thesis. In addition, the applicant must have the following:

• Must have full time university teaching experience as Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer for at least three (3) years

v. Tutorial Fellow

Applicants must be holders of MPH or relevant MSC Degree from a recognized university. In addition, the applicant must:

• Show evidence of teaching experience at university level

Successful candidates will be expected to teach and pursue PhD Degree in the relevant field.
Applicants for the post of Lecturer and above can either be considered for part-time or full-time job.

Applicants for the post of Lecturer and above can either be considered for part-time or full-time job.

Terms of Service:

The terms of service for the teaching posts of Lecturer and above include membership to a pension scheme, a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance. Other posts will be based on a two (2) year renewable performance based contract and gratuity will be given at the end of the contract.
