KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Meet safety goals and objectives, ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures and relevant Tanzanian regulations
• Actively promote safety awareness amongst BGML employees and contractors
• Ensure fire and safety protection systems are maintained to an effective state of readiness
• Ensure emergency response systems are established and that the Emergency Response Team is trained to the required standards
• Identify and analyse emerging trends in safety which will affect BGML operations and present recommended strategies for intervention
• Lead and influence change initiatives and their effective implementation in the work environment, whilst maintaining a consistent approach
• Establish, develop and coach effective work teams to achieve targets and objectives
• Understanding related department activities and manage their impact on the program
• Assist in budget preparation, implementation and reporting and the monitoring thereof
• Provide an effective communication channel with the Tanzanian Mine Inspectorate and Ministry of Home Affairs for Fire Safety and Rescue
• Ensure site safety training needs are identified and relevant programs implemented in conjunction with the training department
• Implement a robust system to ensure compliance with site induction requirements
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• Relevant tertiary qualification in health and safety management or equivalent from a recognized institution
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as computer safety systems and databases
Experience Requirements:
• Detailed knowledge of safety and occupation health including supervisory, technical and operational knowledge
• Detailed knowledge of the application of occupational health processes and standards in underground and surface mining operations
• Relevant experience in public health
• Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular in developing countries
• Relevant experience in presenting training courses
• Significant experience in coaching, mentoring and management of OHS personnel
