ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine seeks to employ an experienced Electrical Maintenance Superintendent to provide leadership, management and technical expertise in the application and execution of electrical service duties within budgeted operating criteria, standard operating procedures, policies, safety and legal requirements.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Ensure the mine’s electrical equipment is maintained in good condition and provide electrical support
• Provide expertise to minimize electrical consumption
• Achieve the annual budgeted operating time through high electrical availability of the equipment
• Determine and implement electrical standards, policies and procedures, priorities and activity planning
• Apply analytical troubleshooting on electrical problems and act in an advisory capacity to relevant parties
• Design and implement an appropriate Electrical structure to ensure the electrical equipment is operated at the required throughput and performance
• Recruit quality personnel in a timely manner to fill any vacancies within the organizational structure
• Identify capital projects which can add value to the business, and then support the implementation of such projects to ensure successful improvements
• Implement an effective training and development program for employees to develop their skills
• Implement employee performance evaluations at least semi-annually in order to identify high potential employees and improve low performing employees
• Implement a continuous improvement system within the workforce, where employees are engaged in their jobs and work together to implement improvements for the betterment of the employees and the business
• Implement a culture of team work where all employees work together and share their skills for the betterment of the team
• Create a safety culture whereby employees have pride and ownership of their workplaces resulting in very high housekeeping standards
• Implement a measurement system of cost awareness and fiscal responsibility, and support that culture to achieve cost reductions
• Inform and advise the Supply Department of electrical equipment parts to be maintained in stock, complete with annual consumptions
• Supervise the execution and quality standards of all electrical contractors, and inspect and sign off on their completed work
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• Electrical FTC or Trade certificate from a recognized training institution
• High voltage certificate obtained from a recognized training institution
Experience Requirements:
• Extensive knowledge of main consumer substations, overhead power lines, main compressors, refrigeration plants, main ventilation fans, winder and shaft operations, emergency power generators, high and low voltage installations and reticulation diagrams for underground and surface operations
• Sound knowledge of budget planning and controls, labour planning and planned maintenance controls
• Sound experience as an Electrical Foreman of underground and surface mining operations
• Sound experience of deep level trackless and conventional mining operations
• Excellent ability to read and understand electrical and engineering drawings
• Sound experience in analytical troubleshooting
• Sound interpersonal and management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team of employees to achieve optimization of electrical equipment and business targets
• Computer literate in Microsoft package applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Visio
• Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular developing countries
