Declaration of Vacancy in the Office of Auditor-General
In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 5(1) of the Independent Offices (Appointment) Act, 2011, I, Mwai Kibaki, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, in consultation with the Prime Minister, declare a vacancy in the office of the Auditor-General and invite applications from qualified persons for nomination for appointment to the office.
To be qualified for appointment as the Auditor-General, a person is required to -
(a) have extensive knowledge of public finance, or at least ten (10) years’ experience in auditing or public finance management;
(b) be a citizen of Kenya;
(c) hold a degree in finance, accounting or economics from a University recognised in Kenya;
(d) meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution; and
(e) be a member in good standing of a professional body for accountants recognised by law.
A person is not eligible for appointment as the Auditor-General if such person -
(a) is a member of Parliament;
(b) is a member of a local authority;
(c) has not met his or her tax obligations;
(d) has been removed from office for contravention of any law; or
(e) is an undischarged bankrupt.
Applications should be received not later than Tuesday, the 9th August, 2011, (midnight Kenya time) by electronic mail at applications.auditor-general@kenya.go.ke or at the Public Service Commission of Kenya, Commission House, Reception, Ground Floor, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi in a sealed envelope addressed to:
