Responsibilities Undertake, either personally or jointly with other investigators, investigation tasks and inquiries into violation of security matters, illegal activities, accidents/incidents, complaints and allegations of misconduct, discipline, etc., in which members of Mission Civilian Staff /CIVPOLs/MILOBs may be involved or implicated, and prepare reports to the Chief Security Officer or Chief Administrative Officer, as conditions will necessarily demand; Assess the nature of reported complaints, establish the ingredients of the relevant offences, proofs required and prepare comprehensive written investigation reports in a timely manner consistent to such reported complaints; Have the ability to interpret and apply any Administrative Instructions, Policies, Rules and Regulations that go into circulation from time to time as guidance for staff members; Visit the scene of Incidents/Accidents and examine clues that would assist in the investigations process; In the performance of the above-mentioned duties maintain liaison, as required with local police and other national authorities or other agents in the mission area who would make investigations tasks bear good results; Perform random checks on Mission vehicles as a deterrent measure for abuses; Maintaining and updating the office investigations database and other office records for ease of reference as necessary; Function as the Standby Duty Officer when placed on periodic roster to do so; Conducting Security Surveys for office premises and facilities and prepare comprehensive security information that produce background papers relating to the security threats and safety of mission staff members and property; Perform any other assignment as required and detailed by the Chief Security Officer. | |

A high sense of confidentiality; initiative and good judgment; commitment to implementing the goal of gender equality by ensuring the equal participation and full involvement of women and men in all aspects of peace operations. Planning & Organization - The ability to achieve goals and objectives and prioritise activities. Monitor and adjust plans to meet changing requirements and use of time efficiently. Communication - Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to provide instructions clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; Ability to complete tasks within a specified time-frame, including preparation of concise investigation reports. Technology Awareness - Knowledge in the use and maintenance of standard security and communications equipment; basic computer skills; proficiency in standard computer applications (e.g. Lotus Notes, Word, Excel, etc) and other software programs. Teamwork - Courteous and tactful with the ability work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. | |
QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education Completion of Secondary Education and relevant training in military or police procedures and practises. Special Training in Investigation Techniques. | |
Work Experience A minimum of six (6) years of security experience within the military; national or international police, security or fire brigade organization. | |
Languages Fluency in spoken and written English and/or French; knowledge of other official UN languages is an advantage and at times a requirement. | |
