Key Responsibilities:
• Leads the design and implementation of highly effective monitoring, reporting, learning, and evaluation systems that enable AAI to enhance our overall impact in line with mission and values (the DOE has the right to initiate any evaluation or review independently as well as upon request from other directors or members/CPs);
• Working closely with other Directorates, coordinates annual planning across the Federation, identifying trends/key issues and country support for SLT consideration;
• Supports members to ensure their accountability, planning and learning systems, processes and structures are appropriate to deliver their strategies;
• Ensures the compliance of AAI units with the Association’s values, vision, mission, strategies, policies, standards, decisions and systems as agreed by the Assembly (working closely with the board’s Audit and Risk committee and Internal Audit);
• Ensures coherent organisational process design, (including the Management Information System) supporting other Directorates and AAI members and country programmes in relation to organisational effectiveness systems and processes;
• Fosters external relationships with relevant partners, peers and stakeholders.
In addition to the individual roles, as a small cohesive team, the AAI Senior Leadership Team with the Chief Executive, are collectively responsible for:
• Overall AAI performance and helping to establish the long-term strategic direction alongside the International Board and Assembly;
• Managing high level stakeholder relationships which have significant publicity and potential impact for all of AA including expansion into new countries;
• Solving complex organisational issues while championing continuous operational improvement.
• Promoting the organisational vision and values to all employees, providing inspiring leadership and role modelling best practice and culture of performance, accountability, collaboration and innovation;
• Ensuring that planning, monitoring, risk management/trouble-shooting, learning, organisational development, and other strategies and system improvements are co-owned and part of every Directorate.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge and Experience
Qualified candidates will have:
Minimum 7+ years in a senior management position as part of an executive team with Board accountability that required managing complex processes at a multi-country level, negotiating with diverse and divergent interests, where you contributed to significant organisational impact;
Extensive staff management experience and people skills where you’ve been able to influence, inspire and role model through your leadership style in a large, multi-cultural decentralised organisation and in a uncertain international environment;
Significant working knowledge of international development, social/economic justice;
Significant organisational culture change and business improvement experience;
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and other languages desirable;
Commitment to ActionAid’s values and Human Rights Based Approach, including demonstrated commitment to women’s rights;
Demonstration of an international outlook, appreciating differences in values and learning from cultural diversity;
Education and Certifications
Post-graduate education in a relevant field: International Development, Social Sciences,
Economics, or other related field;
Management qualification desirable.
Job Specific Technical Requirements
Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluating large scale international programmes;
Experience implementing and overseeing organisational wide planning and systems;
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement innovative approaches to organisational effectiveness, think strategically and systemically, and achieve results when working across organizational and international boundaries;
Experience ensuring and promoting stakeholder accountability;
Financial and Human Resource management skills;
Demonstrated work in organisational development, building culture, change management, conflict resolution, project management;
Experience of developing innovative organisational policies and practices through collective processes;
At least three years management and leadership at a country and multi-country level, in Africa, Latin America or Asia.
