Background: Internews® Network is an international media development organization based in Arcata, CA and Washington, D.C. whose mission is to empower people worldwide with the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard.
General Function: Internews Network is seeking web developer to build an innovative platform to train media professionals from developing countries in investigating and producing stories related to the funding of global health programs. The Platform will support the independent media to report on development aid in a transparent, fact-based, fair and balanced way. It is a website where journalists can register to learn, at their own pace and in their own language, the basics of reporting on health-funding related issues, especially in terms of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a global public/private partnership dedicated to attracting and disbursing resources to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The platform will also be a meeting place where registered users can exchange tips, ask questions, locate information, learn about and use Global Fund resources and engage with other members.
Scope of Work: • Design the e-Learning Platform and integrate curriculum with other interactive applications • Collaborate with curriculum designer and journalists to create platform that meets all needs and requirements • Create system that allows for users to update, interact and otherwise utilize the platform, including wikis, virtual interaction with trainers etc. • Identify system deficiencies and provide timely solutions • Design and implement user-driven templates, databases and interfaces • Develop database-driven Web interfaces for rapid, real-time information sharing • Provide support to the Platform once launched • Train local webmasters to update and maintain platform
Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related experience, • Significant experience in website design • Experience in the non-profit /Media industry desirable • Understanding of e-learning methodologies, including experience in various training and teaching methodologies • Innovative and creative thinker • Experience in and knowledge of the variety of new media technologies, including social media, mobile phones, crowd-sourcing, sms, etc. and how they can be integrated into online platforms • Experience in and knowledge of limitations and innovation of use of internet related tools/activities in Africa and Latin America • Innovative and creative thinker • Journalism and media background helpful • Excellent written and verbal skills
