We are looking for a Research Fellow with world class knowledge to work on one or more themes within the Humanitarian Policy Group research strategy, focusing particularly on the themes ‘Principles, Politics and the Humanitarian System’ and ‘Civilian Security and Protection’.
Our Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) is one of the world’s leading teams of policy researchers and information professionals working on humanitarian issues. It combines high quality policy analysis with a capacity to act as a neutral forum for dialogue and debate.

You will join a dynamic team, and will support the Head of HPG in strategy development, fundraising, research and public affairs, while helping to drive a multidisciplinary and innovative programme.
About the job:
- Research and policy advisory work: conducting high quality applied research.
- Fundraising: attracting funds through bids and marketing, including the development of a substantial personal research portfolio.
- Public affairs: disseminating and promoting the programme’s work and ideas.
About you
You will have:
- a degree and post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline;
- extensive and deep knowledge of humanitarian response programming, particularly civil-military coordination and principles of humanitarian action;
- extensive and deep knowledge of key humanitarian and development issues and organisations;
- experience in policy-oriented research, demonstrated by a track record of publications and reports;
- experience of extended ‘immersion’ in a conflict context;
- strong analytical skills, a capacity to write clearly, and excellent organisational and oral communication skills;
- demonstrated ability to win work and attract funds;
- the ability to work as part of a team and support the Head of HPG in people and project management.
