Plan has recently completed its new country strategic plan for the Ethiopia Country Office for the coming five years, making this an exciting moment to contribute to a refreshed vision which combines tighter programmatic focus with a greater scale of ambition. Key programmatic themes include child survival, education, protection and disaster risk management, while operational areas will be transformed and expanded to enhance overall impact through diversified strategic relationships and greater visibility and influence.
About the role
The purpose of this position is to lead, manage and support Program Unit Managers in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating program interventions; and to provide support and guidance in the management of their respective teams to ensure high performance and the achievement of organisational goals. The incumbent will be a member of the Country Management Team, and will make a give high-level, strategic contribution to the leadership of the organisation as a whole, in close cooperation with other senior staff.
Main responsibilities
- Work in close collaboration and coordination with the PU Managers and CMT members to ensure that the necessary conditions exist for the achievement of the organization’s objectives.
- Ensure that organizational strategic objectives are achieved, and that relevant targets are integrated into PU operations.
- Ensure PUs comply with corporate governance systems, policies and procedures, formulating locally appropriate versions as needed.
- Provide visionary leadership, coaching for results and support to PUMs in the management of programs, as well as in their individual development and performance.
- Build and oversee managerial accountability at the PU level, with particular attention to program quality and timely utilization of budgets in line with annual plans and donor conditions.
- Coordinate support to the PUs from the wider CMT and other departments.
About you
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree in development or related field
- Extensive experience in a similar, senior management role
- Demonstrated experience in the management of key programmatic areas such as health, education, livelihoods, disaster risk management and protection.
- A commitment to, and understanding of, participatory approaches to development.
- Knowledge of human resource and change management
- Thorough knowledge of programming processes, systems and principles, and the ability to provide leadership and support to staff working at community level.
- Comfortable with taking timely decisions in situations where information may be incomplete, based on consultation and sound judgement.
- Numeracy and the ability to interpret financial data, in order to provide management support to budgetary processes including planning, monitoring and reporting.
- Ability to provide leadership, communicate effectively and build high performance teams in support of achievement of organisational objectives.
- Ability to interact and work effectively with others at all levels.
- Good administrative and communication skills.
- Strong skills in facilitation and negotiation.
Location and Travel
The position will be based in the Country Office in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to the field.
