New Scholars seeks a businessperson looking to build businesses, jumpstart economic development and make a major impact in South Sudan (world’s newest country) & Kenya.
Empowering an Entrepreneurial Africa
New Scholars is a not-for-profit global development organization that helps early stage entrepreneurs start, grow and expand locally run businesses throughout Africa. Think of it as a Peace Corps for Entrepreneurs.
Unlike the Peace Corps, New Scholars is focused on jumpstarting economies from within using market-based solutions. Our model addresses—then bridges—knowledge and funding gaps that exist for early stage entrepreneurs in the developing world.
Job Description
New Scholars will invite a businessperson to join us in east Africa for six months starting Summer 2011 to manage incubation of up to 10 handpicked entrepreneurs with scalable business ideas.
This is an opportunity to get involved at the ground level, gain valuable insights, and contribute to the future of the organization and selected African start-ups. The entrepreneur will test their skills in some of the most challenging environments, make an impact where it's truly needed, and help start businesses in the world’s newest country – South Sudan.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have started, lead &/or invested in business(es) of any type: manufacturing, retail, agriculture, technology, etc.
- Candidates must have a passion for building businesses and creating sustainable jobs in emerging markets.
- Best candidates will already have spent significant time in the developing world (preferably Africa) and worked in emerging markers.
