Job Title: War Child Canada Country Director – Sudan
War Child Canada, a registered Canadian charity providing humanitarian assistance to war-affected children, is currently looking for a qualified individual to fill the full-time position of Country Director - Sudan. This individual, based in Khartoum will be responsible for the management and implementation of War Child Canada’s Sudan program activities. War Child Canada implements development programs in conflict-affected communities around the world providing education, livelihoods and access to justice programming to vulnerable children and their families. War Child Canada works to provide support to and build the capacity of local organizations by fostering community-led development.
General
The War Child Canada Sudan Country Director is responsible for all aspects of War Child Canada's Sudan country program.
Objectives of the job
The Country Director ensures that:
o The country strategy is in place and that programs/projects are consistent with that strategy; o The program is implemented, monitored and evaluated appropriately, efficiently and effectively; o Capacity building of local partners takes place to establish sustainability of the program.
Position in the Organization
The War Child Canada Country Director reports to the Program Manager at War Child Canada Headquarters (Toronto, Canada) on all result areas.
Result areas
- Realization of War Child Canada’s country program
o Final and overall responsibility for the country program o Develop and update the Country Strategy (in close collaboration with the Sudan Program Manager at HQ) o Develop Project Proposals o Develop tools and formats for planning, monitoring and evaluation o Monitor and evaluate the country program's implementation o Produce annual plans and reports o Actively look to expand program and indentify donors o Overall responsibility for budget and finances
- Maintain network of contacts/ representation
o Ensure appropriate communications, information exchange and sharing with local partners and with headquarters o Share project 'lessons learned', support communication activities, field visits o Develop and maintain productive relationships with local and national governments, other agencies, donors and media o Represent War Child Canada in meetings and coordination platforms.
- Fundraising
o Final and direct responsibility for in-country fundraising with institutional donors; o Develop and maintain donor relations in coordination with HQ; o Ensure that proposals and reports for all donors are written according to the requirements of the donor.
- Security Management
o Final and direct responsibility for security management; o Maintain internal and external contacts with relevant parties and authorities related to security; o Liaise regularly with WCC’s Operations Manager at HQ on relevant security issues; o Develop / regularly update and implement War Child Canada's Country Security Plan.
- Logistics Management
o Final responsibility for office management and logistics, including reporting to HQ.
- Finance Management
o Final in-country financial responsibility, including reporting to HQ; o Maintain efficient financial control (of cash flows, local payments, etc), accountability standards, procedures and records; o Prepare budget and monitor budget-spending; take appropriate action concerning budget/spending deficiencies or surpluses.
Profile
Knowledge
o Relevant academic background (For example, Masters degree or equivalent experience in International Development, Social Sciences, International Relations, etc.) o Adequate knowledge of financial management to effectively oversee financial operations.
Experience
o Five or more years of relevant experience in an international/humanitarian context with a non-governmental organization, with expertise in at least one of War Child Canada’s Sudan programming areas: Child/Youth Protection (particularly in the context of IDP camps and communities); Livelihoods; Peace-building; or Education (specifically Accelerated Learning Programs) o Two or more years experience working with local partners; and o Management of budgets and staff for over 3 years, including mentoring of national and international staff.

o Social and communicative skills for advising and coaching local partners and frequent internal and external contacts o Ability to oversee finances, logistics, and operations o Strong advisory skills to deliver clear and well-considered advice o Written expressions skills to be able to write strategy, proposals, budgets and reports o Excellent verbal and written skills in English o Capability to decide operational, tactical and strategic issues; o Planning and organizational skills o Able to assess social/political situations and act diplomatically in delicate situations o Capacity building and training skills

SALARY
55,000 – 65,000 Canadian Dollars per annum
