Tasks & Responsibilities
• Innovatively increase awareness of local communities, civil society partners, local government authorities and natural resource management agencies of rights and entitlements of the target groups
• Facilitate people-centred advocacy on issues of land access and tenure, Protected Areas resource access and governance, and social services access
• Provide training and other forms of capacity building to protected forest authorities, communities, Community Based Organisations, local government, and NGO service providers for the planning and implementation of Batwa focused development.
• Support implementation and monitoring of resource access and Protected Area management agreements.
• Facilitating emergence of Civil Society platforms that champion accountability and good governance agenda at sub-county and district level in respect to service delivery to Batwa
• Engage in local and national level advocacy campaigns focused on Batwa
• Facilitate skills, knowledge and practices training that is tailored to the needs of the Batwa (For example, Village Based Trainers’, VBT programme)
• Document and facilitate dissemination of significant successes in empowerment of the Batwa
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
• A good three year Bachelors’ Degree in relevant fields, but a Masters is an added advantage.
• At least 3 years experience in similar work.
• Experience in capacity building and advocacy.
• Proven experience working on social protection issues affecting poor and marginalised groups of people.
• Knowledge of government structures and policies especially in the land, forestry and wildlife sectors as well as Decentralisation.
• Understanding of human rights, and the policy, institutional and legal framework as regards the protection of minority groups
• Familiar with conflict sensitive, gender equity and diversity approaches.
• Experience in working with rural communities, local civil society organisations, and local government.
• Excellent facilitation, mobilisation, communication, documentation and team work skills.
• Ability in promoting pro-poor demand driven business development and rural financial services.
• Demonstration of ability to work under minimum supervision.
