U.S. PEACE CORPS RWANDA Vacancy Announcement: Communications Coordinator
BACKGROUND
The Peace Corps is an independent U.S. Government agency that sends American volunteers around the world to aid countries to fulfill their development needs. The three goals of the Peace Corps are:
To help the people of interested countries in meeting their needs for trained men and women;
To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of peoples served;
To help promote a better understanding of other people on the part of Americans.
The Peace Corps currently operates in 74 countries, with 7,000 American volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
Peace Corps originally opened its program in Rwanda in 1974, working for 20 years before closing its offices in 1994. It reopened its program in 2008 and Peace Corps Volunteers are currently working in two sectors (Education and Health). We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is a team player and self-starter with moral integrity to fill this vacancy.
BASIC FUNCTION
The Peace Corps Communications Coordinator will work with the Country Director and PC staff to create and deliver content, across various media, to tell the PC Rwanda story. Specific duties include: a) coordinate with Country Director on comprehensive communications strategy and plan, b) design and publish annual reports and printed components of strategy/plan, c) manage website and social media components of communications strategy/plan, d) work with staff and Volunteers to design, develop and publish compelling content regarding Volunteer work, e) create compelling case studies and stories highlighting Peace Corps collaboration with our NGO partners, and Rwandan counterparts and communities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge:
Knowledge of Peace Corps mission, goals, and program. Knowledge of social media outlets, basic publishing tools/programs, and basic photography and video tools/practices. General knowledge of communications and marketing. Knowledge of working with Volunteers, and collaborating with host country partners. Knowledge of how to use various media to communicate important information to a diverse audience.
Education: University degree in English, communications, photography, journalism, art, or related field.
Prior Work Experience:
3-5 years minimum work experience. Experience working in any aspect of a communications, media, marketing, or journalism effort to create and deliver important content to a diverse audience. Experience with international community development efforts. Experience working in an inter-cultural environment to meet complex goals and objectives in a timely manner.
Language Proficiency:
Fluent English (written and spoken) required. Kinyarwanda or French desirable.
Abilities and Skills
Ability to: a) research, write, develop and publish content across different media, b) work independently in inter-cultural organization to meet important goals in a timely manner, c) communicate effectively with diverse colleagues; d) drive a manual four-wheel-drive vehicle.
