Team Leader: South Sudan

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic international, non-governmental organization which works to reduce violence and protect civilians in situations of violent conflict and its aftermath, mostly through the deployment on the ground of multinational teams of civilians.
In South Sudan, NP has 8 field teams providing thematically focused protection programming in child protection, gender based violence protection and prevention, displacement (IDPs, refugees and returnees, inter-communal violence reduction and conflict early warning/early response). This young country programme is growing rapidly responding to the dynamic, high needs environment in South Sudan.
Team Leaders are a unique breed! Team Leaders have both programming and management experience and thrive on being field based, leading a small team to medium size team in safe and successful programme implementation. If you love to be a programme implementer while holding management responsibilities, this may be the opportunity for you. NP is looking for experienced Team Leaders to in a number of different field sites in South Sudan. You will need to be energetic and persistent; someone who is able to work closely with people from all over the world, motivating, coaching and inspiring your team. You are someone who brings genuine strength and commitment to civilian protection and violence reduction. You know that this work is immensely challenging and calls on you to be flexible, adaptable, resilient and resourceful. You know how to adjust your communication styles for different audiences and are effective at building relationships across ages, races, religions and roles. You can multitask between responsibilities and are capable of dealing with admin, finance, logistics, security, personnel management and programming tasks. You are someone who takes pride in your work and being part of something bigger than yourself. The Nonviolent Peaceforce programme in South Sudan is young and growing – you are someone who wants to contribute to building something.
You are someone who is not deterred by the complexity of conflict; you are able to analyze conflict dynamics; you are motivated and unendingly persistent in finding and implementing protection and prevention strategies. You will be comfortable living and working in a remote, physically demanding environment, in either a tented compound or simple cement building environment and can enjoy a simple diet.
The successful candidate combines creativity, innovation and demonstrated knowledge of the protection, prevention and peacebuilding. S/he is experienced and skilled at converting protection, violence reduction and conflict analysis theory into practical, locally appropriate solutions that effectively increase the safety and security of civilians affected by violent conflict. S/he has excellent interpersonal skills and flair for connecting and building trust with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. S/he is solutions focused, strategic and is driven by a keen interest and personal commitment to in civilian protection. S/he knows how to support successful programming with strong operational and administrative functions.
