 EDITORIAL ASSISTANT

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.

In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.

The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of EDITORIAL ASSISTANT.

2. Main duties and responsibilities

Under the general guidance of the Director of Economic Affairs and the direct supervision of the Head of the Statistics Division, Editorial Assistant functions will:
• Collect submitted articles from authors and sending them to the members of the Scientific Committee on the instruction of the supervisor and communicating the evaluation of the referees to the authors; 
• Compile the articles and correct identified errors before forwarding the Review for editing; 
• Undertake on a daily basis, all activities related to the elaboration of the African Integration Review; 
• Organize the quarterly conference, Fridays of the Commission, and prepare the respective quarterly bulletin; 
• Provide necessary support to the collection and compilation of statistical data for publications and researches analysis; 
• Contribute to the elaboration and production of the new publications (Policy recommendations of the Congress of African Economists, Economic Perspectives on Africa: views of the African Union; Report on statistical activities in Africa; KeyStats on African socio-economic integration); 
• Assist the Communication Division in the diffusion of the Review and the Bulletin; 
• Work as a focal point between the Economic Affairs Department and the various Departments of the African Union Commission and the Regional Offices; 
• Undertake any other duties as assigned. 

3. Educational Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in the field of communication, journalism, economics or related fields.

4. Work experience

Candidates must have at least 3 years of relevant working experience in the field of publication. A Master university degree in combination with one additional year of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of 3 year of relevant working experience.

5. Other Relevant Skills:

The candidate of this post:
• Should be able to work in multicultural setting, in good team spirit; 
• Should be computer literate; 
• Should have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to plan and organize; 
• Should have excellent drafting and reporting skills; 
• Should have good communication skills; 
• Must have work experience in national or international institutions. 

6. Language Requirement:

Bilingual (English and French). Knowledge of other working languages would be an advantage.

7. Age Requirement:

Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.

8. Tenure of Appointment:

The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

9. Candidates from the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply: Eretria, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.

11. Remuneration: 

Indicative basic salary of 24,056.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 14,414.40 perineum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
