OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To contribute to the improvement of the nutritional status of the population, especially that of vulnerable groups, focusing on nutritional deficiencies, through supporting and providing strategic guidance to countries in stable and emergency conditions.
Description of duties:
Develop a strategic vision aimed at supporting countries in the preparation and implementation of sustainable policies and plans for the reduction of the magnitude of nutritional problems and their impact on mortality and morbidity;
Obtain reliable monitoring of the burden of nutritional problems, especially thought health information system and health research activities;
Provide and support human resources development in the area of prevention, surveillance and management of nutritional problems at different levels of the health system under stable and emergency conditions;
Contribute with other partners to the establishment of a network of exchange of experiences and data, in order to promote a global and integrated approach for the prevention and control of nutrition deficiencies;
Collect, analyze and disseminate good practices in the area of nutrition;
Promote and/or Strengthen strategic partnerships to mobilize resources for improved maternal, newborn and child nutrition within the region;
Develop regional and national capacities for mainstreaming nutrition in national health care delivery and repositioning nutrition as central to national development;
Establish/Strengthen networks and generate visibility for nutrition in the African region.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Doctorate in Nutrition or Medical degree with post-graduate qualification in nutrition
Desirable: Degree in public health background
Skills: 
In-depth technical knowledge in analysis, initiation and development of Nutrition policies, strategies and programmes;
Ability to adapt and work harmoniously with people from diverse cultural settings and backgrounds;
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship at national and international levels;
Strong ability to act strategically, to build and maintain solid networks of contacts to disseminate nutrition information in a targeted and effective manner;
Ability to motivate, guide and develop other capacities at national and regional levels for advocacy, communicating nutrition message for resource mobilization.
Experience:
Essential: At least 10 years of experience in national and international nutrition activities especially in the African Region. Experience in promoting, management, scaling up and monitoring of proven nutrition interventions to prevent malnutrition in stable and emergency conditions.
Desirable: Previous experience in working with communities to promote the concept of adequate nutrition.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French and a working knowledge of the other. Working knowledge of Portuguese will be an advantage
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$ 86,904 at single rate
US$ 80,734 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 65.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
