OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The mission of the WHO/AFRO malaria programme is to contribute to accelerate the reduction of Malaria morbidity and mortality in the region through normative guidance and technical support resulting in the adoption and scale-up of proven interventions as well as the enhancement of Health systems.
Description of duties:
1.To ensure adaptation and dissemination of relevant WHO strategic information and planning tools and knowledge for programme capacity development within AFRO and at country level
2.To develop and maintain a regional database on Malaria Control/Elimination in collaboration with relevant RO, IST and WCO Units and in close connection with relevant CDS/DPC and African Health Observatory platforms
3.To facilitate thorough inputs from WCOs, ISTs and partners in the preparation of regional and global reports on the Malaria situation
4.To contribute to development, Monitoring and reporting related to DPC/CDS/MAL Work Plan through established AFRO planning, peer reviews and reporting processes (Work Plan development, SAM, MTR, BER.)
5.To provide guidance and back-up technical support for program reviews and the development of sound national malaria strategic plans integrated into National Health Sector Development Plans in collaboration with ISTs and Partners Networks
6.To contribute to the development/update of Regional, IST and WCO Plans focusing on AFRO guidance and support to enhance strategic planning program scale-up and monitoring and evaluation capacity at country level
7.To contribute to relevant partnership and resource mobilization initiatives in close collaboration with RO/AFRO, IST and WCO Management and ensure diligent technical and financial reporting to partners,
8.To carry out other duties as requested by the Supervisor
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Degree in medicine and post graduate degree in public health/epidemiology.

Desirable: Training in disease surveillance and planning, management, monitoring and evaluation of health programmes 
Skills: 
Technical expertise in public health and epidemiology, planning, programming management and coordination of health programs. Sound knowledge of WHO policies, strategies guidelines and public health interventions related to malaria control and elimination. Excellent quantitative and analytical skills. Ability to work effectively with colleagues at national IST RO and to proactively engage with partners. Strong information compilation, analysis and presentation skills.
Ability to plan, organize and implement on site and distance capacity development activities
Experience:
Essential: At least 10 years in public health and tropical Diseases/malaria Control with at least five (5) years of experience at international level. Several years of experience in disease surveillance, program planning, management development, monitoring and evaluation

Desirable: Experience in capacity building and strong partnership, consensus building and concrete problem solving
skills
Languages:
Excellent written and verbal skills in English or French with a good working knowledge of the other language.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$ 80,734 at single rate
US$ 86,904 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 65.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
