POSITION SUMMARY
Ifakara Health Institute seeks exceptional individuals to strengthen the Finance & Accounts department to meet standards of excellence required of a world-class research institute and as part of defined succession plan to replace, in the coming years, several senior accounting positions including the posts of Principal Accountant and Chief Financial Officer.
A Branch Accountant works operationally under the Branch Manager is the overall in-charge of finance and accounting issues within an IHI Branch. Specific functions shall be to plan, lead, control and coordinate all Financial and accounting services of the branch and ensure that financial rules and regulations written in the Finance and Administration (FA) Manual are followed. The successful candidates will combine deep accounting skills with proven leadership.
DUTIES OF BRANCH ACCOUNTANT
• Plan, lead, control and coordinate all financial and accounting services of the branch;
• Establish a service delivery culture committed to leadership, professionalism, performance and zero error environment;
• Ensure that all major financial deadlines are met;
• Coordinate annual plan budget activities at branch level;
• Ensure timely preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements;
• Ensure timely preparation of income and expenditure report for the branch;
• Ensure that all Imprests and Travel Advances are handled and recorded properly in line with IHI Financial Rules and Regulations;
• Plan and manage cash and liquidity at the Branch Level;
• Ensure that all payments and postings in the books are approved, that data in payment and posting vouchers are 100% correct and fully supported by all defined documents;
• Ensure that there is an efficient cost and management accounting at branch level;
• Ensure that all changes in fixed assets within the branch are recorded in the central fixed assets register and;
• Be the custodian for the cheque books of the branch.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
University Degree holder in accounting or equivalent qualification. Registration with the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) and working experience in a reputable not for profit organization will be an added advantage;
• Should have indepth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and as well as the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS);
• At least 3 year’s post graduate working experience;
• Proven technical proficiency in accountancy;
• Leadership and management experience, including ability to communicate effectively with senior management;
• High motivation, team-working skills and problem-solving attitude and;
• Should be computer literate, with sound knowledge of accounting packages
