Responsibilities:
Ensure OCHA staff adhere to the agreed templates and guidelines for OCHA's core reporting products, as outlined in the Humanitarian Reporting Handbook.
Take the lead in monitoring and providing feedback on OCHA situation reports, including by working closely with field colleagues and the Coordination and Response Division on improving the quality of siutation reports across all offices;
Provide support where requested to the monitoring of and feedback on OCHA regular external reports (Humanitarian Bulletins), in collaboration with the Reporting Unit (New York), field colleagues and the Coordination and Response Division (New York);
Manage ongoing editing, updating and formating tasks for the "OCHA on Message" series, including by liaising with authors, fact-checking, editing for grammar and style, and working with colleagues in the Advocacy and Visual Media Unit to ensure proper layout;
Support the development of training programmes for OCHA reporting staff, either as online modules or in person workshops;
Manage the OCHA Reporting Community of Practice, including the OCHA Reporting Focal Points Skype group and relevant pages on OCHAnet;
As required, conduct field missions to OCHA Country and Regional Offices to review and advise on reporting practices and information products, particularly in regards to situation reports;
Maintain an internal matrix of information products produced across the organization and update the OCHA Product Catalogue as required, focusing particularly on situation reports;
Initiate and sustain professional relationships with key constituencies (field offices and headquarters colleagues, as well as partners);
Act as focal point on designated issues, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to inquiries, etc.;
Perform other duties, as required.
Qualifications:
-A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, public information, communications, international relations or related area. Experience in humanitarian affairs is preferred.
-Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, information management, international relations, social sciences or related field. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
-English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French, Spanish and/or Arabic is an advantage.
-Basic knowledge of institutional mandates, policies and guidelines related to humanitarian affairs and basic knowledge of the institutions of the UN system required. Advanced computer skills and proficiency in the use of relevant software particularly as relates to Internet publishing and document databases required.
