IT Software Engineer (Managed Desktop) Grade: NO-B

The ITT department's main objective is to provide high quality and cost effective Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services which assist WHO in achieving its mission of health for all. The objective of the Global Workspace Services team is to support WHO staff and partners with managed Information and Communication devices and services that are relevant, accessible and secure, enabling the Organization to work better, smarter and faster. The Global Operations Services provides relevant, accessible and secure, managed Information and Communication devices and services to staff worldwide.

Description of duties: Under the supervision of the Lead (Software Management), the incumbent will collaborate with other WTS Software Packagers, Software Engineers and Technicians to ensure delivery of workplace technologies to end-users are based on approved standards and methods. The incumbent will be required to work with members of the GWS, GSD, ITT and other offices to ensure that software applications and operating systems are standardized and configured based on requirements, and that they follow IT infrastructure security policies and management procedures. The incumbent, in collaboration with other Software Packagers will provide the latest software technologies based on the continual changing of WHO business requirements, and to ensure its optimum integration with other workplace hardware technologies. S/He will also ensure efficient automation of its installation and deployment. Responsibilities include (but not limited to): - Providing third level support on the managed operating system and applications. - Operating system imaging and verification. - Packaging of verified compatible software applications for the managed desktop environment. - Testing and providing a diagnostic for application running on a native Windows 7 environment. - Packaging of security patches and hot-fixes. - Working with the other packagers in application packaging, testing, and diagnostics. - Follow-up on application fixing and ensuring that deadlines are being me

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Essential University degree in computer science, telecommunications, or information management, or related discipline. Desirable Relevant professional training and/or certification (e.g. Microsoft Certifications, ITIL Certifications, etc.).

Skills: - In-depth knowledge of SCCM - In-depth knowledge of WSUS - Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2008 - Extensive knowledge MS Access, MS Word and MS Excel - Deep knowledge of Windows 7 - Good knowledge in application packaging with MSI - Good knowledge of application inventory of SMS and other related tools - High organizational and follow-up skills WHO Competencies 1. Experience: Essential - At least 2 years' experience in the area of ICT operations and support, including - Systems Administration and Operations - intermediate level required; - ICT Platform and Software Engineering - intermediate level required; - ICT User Support and Training - intermediate level required; - Technical Documentation and Communication - intermediate level required; - Applications and Software Packaging - intermediate level required. - Extensive experience of application management, configuration, automated installations Desirable Working experience in an IT environment of a UN based organization.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of English both written and spoken. Knowledge of French an advantage.
