The Peace Corps currently operates in 74 countries, with over 8,000 American volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
Peace Corps originally opened its program in Rwanda in 1974, working for 20 years before closing its offices in 1994. It reopened its program in 2008 and Peace Corps Volunteers are currently working in two sectors (Education and Health). We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is a team player and self-starter with moral integrity to fill this vacancy.
BASIC FUNCTION
The Homestay Coordinator selects and trains appropriate homestay families for trainees according to language needs. Assists in addressing needs at training sites by familiarizing potential homestay families with Peace Corps goals, objectives, policies, and vision; ensures trainee living quarters are safe and secure; serves as liaison between Peace Corps, Trainee, and homestay family as needed. Coordinates activities and provides professional support to Trainees and Volunteers
Coordinates with the Training Manager and makes sure that trainees are put in safe and secure areas in Homestay families. Builds good relationships between Peace Corps and communities where Peace Corps operates. Reports directly to the Training Manager, works closely with Program Managers, Program Assistants, the Language and Cross-Culture Coordinator, and Language and Cross-Culture Facilitators.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge:
Detailed knowledge of community entry, mobilization, and assessment strategies. Thorough knowledge of national/district/local structures, as well as outreach/extension principles and techniques.
Education: Professional or University Degree.
Prior Work Experience:
One to three years of experience in positions requiring the application of instructional skills and techniques in community entry mobilization.
Language Proficiency:
Fluent English (written and spoken)
Fluent Kinyarwanda (written and spoken)
Abilities and Skills
Ability to give technical advice in support of trainee/volunteer activities; plan and organize; communicate effectively in writing and speaking.
Experience with curriculum development and experience in implementing cross-cultural community development projects. Good interpersonal skills.
