The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill a consultancy position of Head of Online Fundraising and Marketing for the Private Partnerships Division. The position will be based in our headquarters in Rome, Italy for a contract period of 11 months.
The overall goal of the Head of Online Fundraising and Marketing is to lead a pro-active approach to WFP’s online fundraising and marketing outreach, resulting in the growth of funds raised through WFP’s online efforts. As Head of the Online Fundraising and Marketing team, he/she will exponentially grow the number of online donations and the number of supporters in the global database.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the following key duties:
Strategy Development
- In liaison with the Head of Web, create and implement a long and short-term, multi-lingual digital fundraising and marketing strategy (WeFeedback and other fundraising efforts, Freerice, SMS, list-building activities, etc.);
- Provide direction to global online fundraising and private sector partnership team;
- Work with the Communications team to leverage WFP’s brand through online fundraising and marketing efforts;
- Make policy decisions regarding individual donations and registration/fund allocation;
- Work with WFP partner organizations (WFPUSA, WFP Japan and other associations) to coordinate marketing efforts and generate growth in online fundraising.
Performance Analysis
- Analyze the effectiveness of current online fundraising and marketing activities through analytics and historical giving data and, accordingly, provide direction for marketing efforts;
- Assess current online fundraising and marketing tools and vendors against industry standards to continually identify best practices and solution to meet WFP’s needs.
Online Business Management
- Oversee the development of multiple income streams including: individual fundraising, community fundraising, major donor cultivation, bloggers, and third party organizations and employees (e.g. Altruist);
- Manage current online fundraising and marketing activities and tools (e.g. appeals, newsletter, freerice.org, WeFeedback, Food Force, etc.).
Other Responsibilities
- Manage online fundraising and marketing budget;
- Manage online fundraising and marketing teams;
- Work with Finance team on financial reporting related to online fundraising.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Education:
- University degree in International Development, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or other related fields. Advanced university degree is desirable.
Experience:
- At least 7 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in international development, or in corporate social responsibility/sustainability in the private sector or in managing large private foundations and associated philanthropic events;
- Experience in private sector fundraising, developing public-private partnerships, negotiations with private partners and public relations/advocacy;
- Managerial experience.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Excellent sales, marketing and communications skills such as to approach partnerships and fundraising in a creative and entrepreneurial manner;
- Strong understanding in online marketing, communications or public relations;
- In-depth knowledge of online marketing principles;
- Excellent skills in standard applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver;
- Good knowledge of HTML and Drupal;
- Knowledge of graphic design is preferable;
- General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration is an asset.

Language:
- Working knowledge (proficiency/level C) of English;
- Intermediate knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian or Chinese) or Portuguese as a WFP working language is preferred.
