Applied Sciences
The Faculty of Applied Sciences is the largest faculty of TU Delft, with around 550 scientists, a support staff of 250 and 1,400 students. The faculty conducts fundamental, application-oriented research and offers scientific education at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The faculty is active in the fields of Life and Health Science & Technology, Nanoscience, Chemical Engineering, Radiation Science & Technology, and Applied Physics.
In 2010, the TU Delft established an entirely new Department of Bionanoscience. This new department is dedicated to research at the interface between nanoscience, synthetic biology and cell biology, from both fundamental scientific and application-oriented points of view. It is part of the university's successful Kavli Institute of Nanoscience established by the US-based Kavli foundation (www.kavli.tudelft.nl).
The internationally-oriented, vibrant, collaborative and expanding Department of Bionanoscience started with three faculty members: Cees Dekker (Dutch), Nynke Dekker (Dutch) and Juan Keymer Vergara (Chilean), with an excellent track record in single-molecule biophysics. Within the last two years the Department has expanded to include seven new faculty members that significantly widen its scope towards biology: David Grünwald (Germany), Christophe Danelon (France), Bertus Beaumont (Netherlands), Chirlmin Joo (Korea), Anne Meyer (USA), Elio Abbondanzieri (USA), and Sander Tans (Netherlands). The Department has excellent general facilities, like the Bionanoscience central microscopy facility, extensive general bio-lab facilities and the Kavli Nanolab Delft (a large new clean room facility).
Job description
We aim to attract another ~ 10 top scientists at all levels from junior to senior faculty in a variety of disciplines. Research subjects can cover, but are not limited to: 1) Biology and biophysics at the level of the single cell, 2) Molecular biology and biochemistry, 3) Synthetic biology, 4) Theoretical biology and biophysics, 5) Superresolution microscopy and 6) Nanoprobes, nanomedicine, and bionanoapplications. We are particularly eager to expand in the areas of synthetic biology and superresolution imaging (nanoscopy).
We aim to hire group leaders with an outstanding scientific track record in one of the disciplines mentioned above, people with a pioneering mentality who appreciate scientific and engineering challenges and who through their research, management skills and teaching qualities can inspire co-workers and students alike. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a strong, externally funded research program, and be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Conditions of employment
The maximum salary for an Assistant Professor is € 4970 per month gross, for an Associate Professor, € 5920 and for a Full Professor, € 8622. Terms of employment and length of contract vary according to the position. TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed internet access from home, and the option of assembling a customized compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA'). Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
