This is a new post at international Alert which has been created to ensure top-quality of our respected range of innovative peace research outputs. An experienced researcher and expert, the ideal candidate will have a talent for designing and managing complex and innovative peace research processes, with a track record of relevant publications. The Head of Research will report to the Country Manager and work closely with other colleagues to conceptualise and manage relevant studies and processes. S/he will also advise on and be actively involved in advocacy and policy dialogue processes, following-up on research findings. The successful candidate will have experience of monitoring and evaluation, and project management including responsibility for financial and staff management. S/he will also have experience of building research capacity with partners.
Educated to higher degree level, the successful candidate will have an excellent grasp of issues related to: political economy, conflict-sensitivity, natural resource management/ oil governance in Uganda/ Africa, monitoring and evaluation of peace impacts in development work, gender, identity and conflict, reconciliation, and peacebuilding. S/he will, in addition, have experience of managing print production and communications tool development. The Head of Research will be an excellent communicator, able to share research findings in a range of settings, with a proven ability to build strong internal and external working relationships.
The posts will be based in Kampala, and involve frequent travel within and occasionally outside Uganda.
