Development Executive World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)

Africa Region (French speaking countries)

Attractive salary based on local home conditions

Would you like to make a difference to the lives of girls and young women many of whom live in some of the most challenging parts of the world?

With ten million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from 145 countries, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world. It supports girls and young women to develop their full potential as responsible citizens of the world, focusing on leadership development and active citizenship. These are delivered through our innovative global education, community and advocacy programmes. International Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting has been making a difference to the lives of girls and young women for 100 years and in 2010 we celebrate our centenary, which includes the launch of our Centenary Appeal – the Global Girls Fund.

Our African Region now has an interesting opportunity for a development executive to come and join us. This demanding home based regional role plays an integral part in continuing the development of WAGGGS in the Africa Region – The Africa region has members in 31 countries in the Sub-Sahara part of Africa; 14 associations are French speaking and 17 are English speaking.

Your main task will be to support the promotion and development of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in our African Member Organisations. Whilst you will be part of the Regional team, your line manager works from our London office and so you will need to be a self-starter who is happy to be based at home working independently, but also happy to travel throughout the region working alongside and supporting the member organizations. To be successful you will need to be an astute individual who can build relationships and work closely with the individual associations, identifying their varying needs and providing the assistance they need – be it planning and staging events; delivering training in any or all of strategic priorities of WAGGGS – leadership, membership growth and advocacy; generating and preparing reports; working with and encouraging volunteers; managing any number of differing projects at one time and at a distance; whilst also finding opportunities for generating interest in and promoting WAGGGS to new members.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a culturally diverse environment, will have delivered training in the NGO world and can demonstrate a sound track record of effective project management.

Applicants must have attained a good educational standard - preferably to degree level or equivalent. You must have excellent French, written and spoken, and a good level of written and spoken English. It will be an added advantage if you are knowledgeable about and sympathetic to the aims of WAGGGS and the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement. You will be based at home although extensive travel is very much part of the role.

We are offering a 2 year contract, commencing October 2011.

If you are interested in this challenging opportunity, please download further details from WAGGGS’ website - www.wagggsworld.org/en/about/jobsopportunities

The closing date for this position is 31 August 2011.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in September/October 2011.
