POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Grid System monitoring to ensure that a continuous and reliable flow of electric power supply from generating plants to various places of grid destination and distribution points are maintained.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Collects all necessary initial technical data in the daily log sheets and defect register book.
  • Issue permits to work, limitation of access, sanction of test after proper Isolation of equipment at switch yard before people start working to ensure highest safety standards are observed and maintained all the times in order to preserve life and property.
  • Maintains close liaison with Grid Control Centre (SCADA), Generating plants stations and other grid substation Operators to ensure smooth restoration of power supply in case of System power failure.
  • Reports a day recorded shift events to System control Supervisor/In charge to ensure the higher authority get informed for record and action.
  • Adheres safety procedures to ensure that, OSHA policy is strictly observed at work place.
  • Observes plant operation to ensure that, electrical and electronics facilities for control, protection, metering data transfer and communication purposes are working properly.
  • Carries out inspections to ensure that, all equipment inside control room and substation yards are safe and okay.
  • Monitors plant operations to ensure that, electrical power is supplied to customers at the Company standards for voltage, frequency, current (load current) MW, MVAR, power factor etc.
  • Monitors plant operations to ensure that, switching procedures is properly and carefully    followed during system/plant operations. Any other official duties as may be assigned by the Senior Engineer.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Engaging in mechanical works related to repair maintenance.
  • Responsible for starting and stopping engines and observe their functioning.
  • Carry out plant operations, taking periodical readings and report any defect or operational irregularities.
  • Monitors plant generation engine to ensure engine surroundings are neat and clean all the time.
  • Checks the status of water, oil and fuel in the engine when they are on or off to ensure the engine are properly maintained.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Preparation and management of power projects development, mostly hydropower; conceptual designs, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender documents preparation; acting as client’s engineer and independent engineer for projects, and technical due diligence assessments for hydropower development to ensure competitive value management to achieve company objectives.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Undertake development of power projects in line with the national priorities as set up in the power system master plan.
  • Conduct feasibility studies which shall include hydrological, topographical, geotechnical, measurements, investigation and analysis, to determine various projects design parameters; including review of available data, information, reports and studies.
  • Coordinate environmental and social studies, as well as economic and financial analyses including power market surveys as input into projects feasibility and design.
  • Undertake development of projects into detailed design, specification and tender documents preparation, commensurate with international practice, in liaison with procurements and projects departments for taking on the tendering and project implementation follow up processes.
  • Ensure comprehensive hydrological and geotechnical risk studies, investigations and management in the high investment capital hydropower project are properly explored, allocated and managed.

  • Review and verify accuracy of payment invoices of consultants, contractors and suppliers to ensure that payments accurately reflect the cost of the works completed pursuant to milestones or goods supplied.
  • Ensure Engineering activities are in line with project time table and make sure that the interface of the project is achieved and close supervision of commissioning finally handing over of the completed works to the user department.
  • Ensure that health and safety is adequately provided for and observed in the project area according to TANESCO safety rules
  • Ensure that all civil engineering works including foundations and trenches are carried out according to the specifications and observe that no water will be trapped in the trenches during rain season.

  • Overall supervision and Project Management of major Distribution Line projects for timely completion while ensuring value for money.
  • Preparation of Project’s Terms of References, Expression of Interest and Request for Proposals, including evaluations and award for procurement of consultants.
  • Preparation of Technical Specifications, tender documents, participate in tender evaluations, contract negotiations claims management, in collaboration with other stakeholders and in compliance with internationally recognized professional standards.

  • Supervision and project management of major Transmission Line projects (local and donor funded), including procurement and coordination with other stakeholders, cost control, design and, monitor project progress to ensure that projects are completed within the budget.
  • Prepare Technical Specifications, and bill of material lists to implement engineering design and modifications, tender documents, tender evaluations, contract negotiations and claims management
  • Directing all engineering activities within electrical discipline for which he/she is responsible in accordance with the highest professional and technical standards and ensures that sound engineering concepts are developed and incorporated into all projects.
  • Reviewing the technical accuracy and adequacy of, diagrams, drawings, calculations, studies, specifications, bidders’ quotations, and other technical documents.
  • Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making changes, adaptations and/or modifications.
  • To Plan, design, develop, coordinate and review all electrical engineering work, including electrical power systems protection systems and high voltage switchyard equipment.
  • To review systems calculations such as cable, conduit and electrical equipment sizing, Short circuit, load flow and power system relay protection set point calculations.
  • To provide technical support to construction group by answering any design or engineering questions that may arise during execution phase of the project.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual, annual projects progress and financial reports for submission as appropriate to TANESCO and all financing agencies/Development partners.
  • Participate in commissioning of the projects after completion of installation work, to ensure safe operation of the Plant (Transmission Line)
  • Assist to prepare Project Completion Report, which outline, inter alia, achievements in relations to objectives and targets of the projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University.
  • A Post Graduate Degree in Engineering Management (Project Management) /Construction Management will be an added advantage).
  • At least three (3) years’ proven experience in the field.

  • Participate in final inspection and commissioning of the projects after completion of installation work, to ensure safe operation of the Plant (Transmission Line)
  • Assist to prepare Project Completion Report, which outline, inter alia, achievements in relations to objectives and targets of the projects
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science CIVIL Engineering from a recognized University. A Post Graduate Degree in Engineering Management (Project Management) /Construction Management will be an added advantage).
  • At least three (3) years’ proven experience in the construction works, amongst, power plant engineering field, experience in power related industry of Project management.
REMUNERATION
An attractive compensation package based on performance and commensurate with the responsibility will apply to successful candidates. All positions’ terms of employment are performance based contracts.
